MotherLove - I wouldn't sweat this! Last year my son put down the name of the two colleges he would eventually NOT be accepted to, and is in the process of changing his scholarship college choice to Yale where he was accepted! He received the $2500.00 National Merit Scholarship. IMHO - name the schools your daughters currently consider their top choices. There will be other chances to let the other schools know! And things will very likely change a year from now!
While I think it is impt to name a couple of schools (what can it hurt?), I don't think that it is as momentous a decision as it feels right now! Though, I do remember how my S stressed last year over this, I can see in hindsight, that it hardly mattered which schools he chose.
That's just our personal experience FWIW!

In keeping with the day I've been having, I went out to my mailbox and there was no letter from the collegeboard, but there was a wasp in the mailbox.

the letter that is sent along with the semifinalist notification has a list of all the schools and corporations that sponsor NMS. This will be sent out late August, or September

Thanks, KLC, for the advice!

Anybody get the April letter about national merit and commended status since last Friday, when the OOP's kids got theirs? No letter yet for my s, though he did get quite a few college letters yesterday and Bowdoin looks like it has a nice campus.

will penn/cornell/columbia/jhu care if i send them my scores?

No, D hasn't received a letter yet. She was in the 99th percentile with a selection index of 213, so she should be commended, but I don't believe she will get NMSF status ... Tennessee jumped from 213 to 216 last year and since we don't know the cutoff for this year yet, we're not holding our breath.

My daughter scored 223 here in FL and hasn't heard yet.

that's odd i'm in FL and found out today through my school.

Do you know what the cut off is in FL?

BTW, my D wasn't in school today, so maybe she'll find out tomorrow.

I got my letter for NMS today, but there's one problem: my PSAT scores were dramatically lower than my real SAT scores (by 150 points in math and 60 points in verbal). Should I still send my scores?

I'm wondering the same thing as ladylazarus. I got a ridiculously low score in math on my PSAT (scantron issues. I'm an idiot). I also put down math as my intended major. My PSAT score translates into a score 120 points lower than my old SAT I + writing, which I'll probably use for admissions purposes. I'd feel kinda embarrassed if colleges I am seriously considering receive my PSAT scores.

wednesday check-In: mail came and no letter again. Splashmom, any luck for you?

bump, what can I say? I really want to know. :-)

I haven't been home to check the mail, but will post when I do. Quite honestly, we have all but abandoned the idea that she will be a semi finalist. She has a selection index of 213, and last year, the number jumped from 213 to 216 in Tennessee. I see no chance of it dropping to 213 again :( . I'm sure she'll be commended, though, since it sounds like the nationwide number for that is 202 (from what I've read here).

heidi, promised I'd write when I got home. D was called to counseling center today where GC gave her the letter. Did your S receive one at school?

I have the same question as ladylazarus and lola-cho..does anyone know if it makes a difference? Because my PSAT score was 205 and my SAT score was 2300...pretty big difference.

I would also really like to find out which schools track interest...does anyone know more about this?

we are in NY

splashmom, I just asked my s and he didn't get a letter at school. Hmmm... the wait continues! I'm glad your daughter got hers. And I hope she is a semifinalist! I think the cut-offs go up and down.

Oh good...I'm not the only one who hasn't received a letter yet. I was worried!
