National Merit

Hi all,
Just got a letter in the mail today from the Natrional Merit Scholarship peoples confirming that I am a Finalist. Yay! My question is thus: I currently have UW as my first choice school, as this really and truly is where I want to go. Does anyone know if the UW offers any scholarship money at all for this? So many other schools are offering full rides, and the UW website is frustratingly cryptic on this subject. Even Google yields nothing of note. Does any one on here know more regarding this? I found one old brochure from 2007 mentioning that some awards were given, but have been unable to find a trace since then. I am wondering if I should change my first choice school listing with the scholarship people if it won't help me at the UW, just in case.

Any personal experience, hearsay on campus, etc, is appreciated.

Just call up UW and ask. That will be the most accurate and up to date information you can get.

I know a few people that were NMSF and were offered full rides to UW. But yes, I would call UW and ask them directly. I don’t see why you wouldn’t be rewarded for this honor though :)

Calling UW was great advice! That’s what I ended up doing this afternoon… sadly ( and probably related to scrimping and saving with the budget cuts) UW no longer funds National Merit Scholarships! I’m lucky enough to have other things that should help with financial aid (URM, veteran status) so maybe, NMF will help for Honors consideration or something, I hope! It feel just a bit like I’m squandering it, but IMO, UW is worth it.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Wow that sucks! Must be lack of state funding. Hope you enjoy UW though!
