How would it look to the Ivies, if I didn't take the PSAT, and scored well on the SAT by itself?

It's my junior year, and my ordeal is that I just realized I might want to take the SAT, and the PSATs are in October. So I really don't want to rush into taking the PSAT, if I'm not going to get Commended.

psat scores don't show up on your app so technically colleges will never know your actual score. It doesn't really matter whether you take them or not...unless, of course, you are going for comended or national merit distinction.

I don't understand why you wouldn't want to take it. It does not conflict with the October SAT test date, it is cheap or free depending on your school, it is good practice for real SAT test conditions and it can only help you. If you blow it, it can't hurt you, because your score's are never reported.

I agree with vadad. Since the scores are not reported to colleges, they won't impact the admissions process and the PSAT serves as a good practice for the SAT. Even if you havn't done any prep before the PSAT, you will get a good idea of where you stand in terms of scores and you can prep for and take the real SAT in the spring of your junior year.

Even if your school reports it on your transcript, colleges are not going to care - what really matters is your SAT. That said, if you decide not to take the PSAT for whatever reason, the result will be the same - it won't make a difference in admissions.
