<p>Has anyone seen a recent national ranking of undergraduate MIS programs? I was wondering how well UA’s program scored? Also does anyone have any experience with this major? It looks like a good program, but I’m just wondering how it fairs nationally??? THANKS!</p>
<p>Others can correct me I’m wrong, but I think USNews only names the top 5 MIS programs - which are…MIT, Carnegie Mellon, UTexas, UMaryland, & UMich</p>

<p>I notice that Dr. Sharpe, who is the interim Dean of the Honors College and the current Director of Computer-Based Honors Program is briefly shown at the beginning of the video (I didn’t watch the whole thing; he may be on again, later.). Dr. Sharpe is from the MIS department. </p>

<p>Capstone Experience
The Capstone Experience is a project-driven course taken in the senior year of the MIS program. Seniors work in teams with direction of Master’s-level project managers to provide solutions for the real business challenges of our corporate sponsors.</p>
<p>During the Capstone Experience or “CapEx,” students work with corporate clients to fully understand the pressing issues faced by their companies and implement student-designed processes and technologies that solve them. CapEx differentiates our Top 5 nationally-ranked MIS program because our projects allow students to transition into a successful professional life through real experience by creating real business value.</p>

<p>It looks like the MIS department has some scholarships for continuing students in MIS.</p>
<p>Full-Time Employment
The University of Alabama MIS Program has enjoyed close to 100% placement of its graduates in the field since 1999. The Program annually attracts some of the best organizations in the nation to recruit our students. MIS graduates are hired by firms ranging from small startups to the largest corporations and public-service organizations in the world.</p>
<p>Not sure about any specifics, but our MIS program seems to be quite strong! The students work with top companies like Walmart and Proctor and Gamble just to name a couple. Furthermore, I would say that because of the nature of MIS, their students are taught and expected to exemplify a level of professionalism that most students do not begin to think about until their later years. It is not uncommon to walk into the MIS building and see students in business attire preparing for a presentation. Plus the work seems quite interesting. If I had to choose another major I’d choose MIS. </p>
<p>One of my classmates recently graduated with an MIS degree and was accepted (deferred admission) to Harvard Business School! Granted he is an outstanding student with tons of other activities and accolades (did I spell that right?) but obviously his MIS degree helped him achieve his success. Also, he was in the Computer Based Honors Program too. (unrelated but definitely something you should check out).</p>

<p>Dr. Shane Sharpe, the director of CBHP, is a professor from MIS (PhD Texas Tech). Dr. Sharpe is also a pharmacist (I think from UDallas), so he also has a medical background.</p>

<p>This is a reminder about the University of Alabama’s Management Information Systems (MIS) Open House this Wednesday, November 4th at 6:30PM in the AIME building located on campus at the north end of the North Ferguson parking lot. </p>
<p>This event is open to all students. Free food, drinks, and prizes will be provided. This is a great opportunity to meet current MIS students and learn more about the major. </p>
<p>For those who are unfamiliar with the program, The University of Alabama has one of the Top Five MIS programs in the nation. The program has a low student-to-faculty ratio and top of the line computer labs and facilities open exclusively to MIS majors. Students graduating from the program enjoy virtually 100% job placement upon graduation. MIS graduates from The University of Alabama are among the highest paid college graduates.
