So theres a science competition for high schools called the National Science Bowl. After reading about it on the website, The Department of Energy's National Science Bowl I am unsure whether or not this would be good for college apps or if its a thing just to have fun. Any comments? Thanks in advance

your team has to qualify regionally first

It looks great for apps, especially if you qualify....

Well even if our team doesn't qualify, if I were to help start the team and put time to organize it, would it at least mean something, or does our team have to qualify for it to mean something?

it will look good if you start the team and be a leader. it will look really good if you qualify. its quite difficult to qualify tho. u need to be really good

The National Science Mug, or the National Science Saucer look better on college applications. Bowls are so yesterday.

Seems quite difficult though, lots of general science knowledge required to do well, not like its specific to one field.

Any further insight? Much appreciated.

It's a really big thing over at my school,m I think my school went to DC or something for nationals last year. I'm kind of regretting not joining back in freshman year, and it's a tad late now (I'd start out nearer the bottom, and wouldn't have the time to climb up, I think).

If you manage to become a team leader it could be a good way to demonstrate "leadership ability", and it would also be good in showing your passion for science or whatever if that's what you wish to pursue in college.

now we need a catchy name for the club/team, any ideas?

I've heard that if do qualify for Nationals, that the competition occurs during AP Testing week (or at least part of it). Not 100% sure, but just something to keep in mind.

ya April 30 - May 5th. But I for the most part, the club is about to start, but I am lacking a name. I really would appreciate ideas...

When I was in high school, I ended up going to nationals 3 times. It's definitely a pretty good deal, since everything is paid for, and you meet a ton of really smart people. If any of you guys have questions about it, PM me.

ya, im all for the competition, but i need help with making a name for the club!

Why does it say you have 1 post when in this thread alone you've made 5+?

HSL posts no longer add to your post count -- see the sticky at the top of the board.

lol just call it "Science Bowl"! That's what we call it at our school...

I ended up calling it Science Club. But I might end up changing it.

I have no idea what to do during meetings now.. i need help

Does anybody who has competed before have any good links or resources for practice questions besides the ones on the main site? I'm in the process of starting a team at my school and we are in need of practice material. Also, If you have any PDF or zip resources, I would greatly appreciate it if you could send me them via e-mail (Tommy2030@gmail.com).

Thanks a bunch,
Tommy
