National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS)

NSHSS is NOT a scam. Harvard Dean was keynote at a conference and NHS is WAY different than NSHSS. NHS is a national organization that has chapters at the schools across the world and each school must abide by the national guidelines. NSHSS has given me several scholarships and when I got that thingermabob I didn't have to pay anything to be a member. I have also connected with a couple of figures from Harvard on my admission... I have it in the bag :D I also was sent honor cords for graduation...nice :</p>

But to those who don't entirely understand, you really need to research before you jump to co0nclusions

But I don't blame you, you shouldn't have to pay anything

haha i guess it's a scam in that they ask for money for you to join this thing that isn't as selective as they make it out to be.

and NHS is just stupid

I didn't have to pay any money for a membership. They sent a diploma like thing, a little "press release" (lol), stickers, all in a black folder. Not bad for not having paid anything.

NSHSS is NO SCAM. I a got one of those things too. Its a program that you can put on your college applications and if you haven' t graduated High School yet they help you with finacial aid if your grades allow.

It was all free for me too. If you score well enough on your SAT MEMBERSHIP is FREE

my guidance counselor said it was a scam and basically pointless

I took the risk and joined, as did a few other of my classmates, I've entered tons of their scholarship searches--especially the Abercrombie and Fitch one. It's a great way to get in touch with more scholarship services that especifically work with them. It isn't like Who's Who, you actually get monthly updates and chances to interact with other members of NSHSS. It's been a great experience, especially the conferences and such. You actually get your money's worth.

I am also a JrNYLC, NYLSC, NYLC, alumna :)
best investment you can ever make.

"and NHS is just stupid"

National Honor Society is stupid? That can make your college application look a lot better...

hmm NSHSS is kinda worthless, but I think I'll write it on my apps

It's not worthless, I am a member and it is great for networkind scholarships. They give out lots of exclusive scholarships and help you find money and if your a junior yuo can get discounts on ACT/SAT prep classes and materials.
NSHSS is run by the Noble Foundation aka the people who bring you the Nobel Prize.
Trust me it isn't a scam.
And no offense but the guidence counselor who said it was a pointless scam proly doesn't know about it. My guidence counselor is the one who nominated me. And this is an invite/nomination only thing. So all you who got the offer someone nominated you.

"i got it today too, went on the website and its supposedly open to nominees with a 3.5+ GPA. They say u only have to pay $45 one time and theyll neva charge u again 4 anythin..........idk thou, ive neva heard of it either"

This means its probably a SCAM. I wouldn't fall for it.

Ok People NOT A SCAM!

N.S.H.S.S. = S.C.A.M.
lol.

it is not a scam. If you go to their web page, they have a fee waiver for families that are having economic trouble. If it were a scam, would they really let people in free? That would defeat the purpose of the scam.

I just applied to be an Ambassador. And also, is NSHSS a good enough honor to list on college apps?

Got it two years ago and totally thought it was a scam. Now I kinda regret it, however.

Plus, NHS, scoff. I’m boycotting 'em. Didn’t get in due to my “excessive” tardies to school. So much BS.

Wait what, I’m confused…is it a scam or not?

The organization does not steal your money, but it is a “scam” in that the “distinction” is completely without merit. Trust me: If you indicate on your applications that you are a member of the NSHSS, you will look like a total tool.

Sigh. No, it is not. It is “chaired” by Claes Nobel, the grandnephew of Alfred Nobel (of Nobel Prize fame) and a person of no extraordinary achievement. (It works out great; he gets some recognition for being a descendant of Alfred, and they get the right to use his prestigious last name.) It is not at all affiliated with the Nobel Foundation. That it has had high-level people speak at its conferences is meaningless; they surely command princely sums, especially with the money the for-profit NSHSS is pulling:

aristotle, that’s what I thought.

hmmm I live in Germany and got declined by all my colleges in the US (but I’m planning on going to the UK anyway), and then I get the letter in the mail today … lol
i’m wondering if I should bother …
