So I got this thing in the mail that says I've been nominated or whatever to this National Society of High School Scholars (we'll just call it NSHSS from now on.) What I want to know is.... does it really mean anything? I don't really think it is, but I'm just curious as to what others think. Not only have I never heard of it before, but it sounds very fishy to me. Also: How did it even hear of me (SAT/ACT scores, I presume?)

Thanks in advance. :P

no its nothing special, its just people trying to get money from you...i got the same thing from "National Honor Roll" asking me to buy a book with my name and picture...yea its pretty much a scam

Somewhat legit, but probably not worth $45, unless you can get in for free based on need. Then, heck, it's free, right?

I joined it. I have no idea how they found me. I joined for the scholarships and well, I'm working on one of theirs right now. For that, it's worth it.

Yeah, I just got this in the mail about an hour ago. After a quick google search, I threw the invitation in the garbage. Google it and look for the CC thread about it; it is an overall scam, I think.

Last year I joined the Who's Who of American High School Scholars. It's a good resume builder.

My daughter also got an invitation in the mail and we're trying to figure out how they got her name and address. We homeschool so it's not through the local school systems. Do the SAT people share student information? It says that they found out about her in the Homeschool Clearinghouse. Did a Google and they sell books, not a list of names. I don't want to throw away the $45 if there's a chance for a little college aid, nor do I want to put this on her resume and people know that it's a farse.

From their website:

"How do I qualify for membership?
A student must be a 2nd semester sophomore, junior, or senior in high school with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or better. "

That is the sole requirement. Remember, anyone can see your 3.5+ gpa on your HS transcript, you don't need to be on NSHSS's list. Also, remember the first warning about scholarship scams....they ask for money to apply.

it's nothing special
they sent that stuff to me three times already, and my stats aren't even that great

this is a scam. dig up the thread from last year

How do they get names and addresses of kids that are homeschooled?
