National Spelling B

Like funny stereotypes and spelling? Turn on ESPN!

Future CCers right there. The one guy who was like “fail” when he misspelled his word was pretty funny though.

Why even go through all the trouble finding hard words for them to spell. They should trust try to spell the Indian kids’ last names…

I think they’re saving those for the finals tonight.

Our friend’s son; David Tidmarsh won it in 2004 so it was nice to see all the old clips of him this year. David was such a sweet kid and unknown to many his family was having significant medical issues at the time so it was very inspiring to all of us who know the family.

I can’t help but think of the “Cheap Seats” episode of Rebecca with the magic fingers when I see the Spelling Bee.

Aw man! When I was an 8th grader it was my dream to go there! I’ll admit it, I was a nerd, but you get on ESPN!

Just saying… it’s been the same announcer since 1999 at least!

How priceless would it be if some kid just goes “F U C K Y O U, (whatever the word is).” I mean think of the national play that would get. Whoever did that would surpass the level of fainting kid and actually go down in spelling bee lore. I already can’t remember the name of the weird indian loser that won this year, but I sure as hell would remember someone if they did that.

Yeah but if it was some Indian kid even if you remembered his name you still couldn’t pronounce it

I was in it in 8th grade! However, I didn’t make it into the televised rounds… I did get to see the finals for free, though, and an all-expenses-paid trip to D.C…

can I bring one of these kids with me to the GRE?

You would have to make sure they knew the definitions of those words in the GRE.

I’m a decent speller, but goddamn, I don’t think I can spell over half the words on that list if I went up there when I was a kid. Only words I know on the list are Cassiopeian, teppanyaki, cheongsam, haori, and kagura.

it doesn’t matter. I hear they don’t give you spell check on the writing section. I’ve been relying on MS word to do that crap for me ever since like 7th grade. my speiling is badd

I thought it was funny to see an Indian kid go up there and it have their name followed by some specialized area of medicine as a future occupation… then a white kid would go up there and it would have some short name followed by “favorite food.”

I thought it was funny to see an Indian kid go up there

the winner is from my middle school YAY!!!
