Hey everyone, I just received in the mail a package regarding some National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) opportunity. I was wondering if anyone else received the same thing, and if this isn’t some sort of shady sale with an ulterior motive.
It isn’t even shady, they just want your money LOL. My kids collect these now for the lolz. We really enjoy anything embossed though, it shows extra va-va-voom
I applied and got accepted to the Political Science and Public Policy one at American University in Washington D.C. I heard it is not a very selective program but I’m really interested in the field so I think it will be worth it.
They just want money.
I got it last year. It looked interesting to me, so if you have to money and aren’t doing anything else, go for it. I heard that they just want money, like posters above said so I didn’t bother.
Good luck!
My daughter went to Junior National Student Leadership Conference (JNSLC) in Washington DC while in Middle school.
It is not a scam. They have the activities that they discuss and you get to meet peers from all over. You get to learn more about whatever the theme of the conference is.
However, one should not think that it will convey any special benefits…colleges will not say “ooh! you did that!!”
Also you and your family have to discuss if the benefit to you will be worth the cost. We thought it would because we didn’t have to pay for airfare and it gave our daughter a chance to be independent.
Here’s what I’ve heard about it:
- It’s not selective. It’s not special. It’s not well-known. It’s not particularly rigorous or high-quality. It is egregiously expensive, however.
- If you have money to shell out because your family resides in some affluent suburb and owns three hedge funds, then by all means, consider it.
- If you want to apply because you want to enjoy the program for what it is, rather than trying to climb the college admissions ladder, then go for it.
