National Student Leadership Conference

Apparently my school nominated me. :0 Which is kind of funny because I've never even been picked for Student of the Month (and I'm in 11th grade, so that's a lot of months). The programs look pretty interesting and I'm probably going to try for Medicine or Engineering.

So has anyone here gone to this before? Did you love it/dislike it? Is this thing prestigious at all?

I went to it a long time ago. I had a good time and all... but don't think for a second that the program is prestigious or anything. It's just something to have fun with if you've got nothing else to do and have some cash to throw around(well in my case my parents made me go thinking it was something prestigious but it's not-cuz it's not really worth the money imo). But those are my two cents.

Not prestigious at all. Many students get 'nominated'. It is the same as who's who, national honor role and all that stuff. If it is a program you find interesting and you have the money then go for it. But it is not something to report on college apps or anything. Rule of thumb - programs and books you pay to get into are not generally prestigious.

Not prestigious, did not really like it. Thought it was a waste of money. I would highly recommend not going.

ive got all sorts of this crap but i could never afford to go
stuff like operation catapult, national leaders conference, washington dc leadership conference blah balh

sucks but oh well

from what i've heard, it is essentially a big moneymaking scam.

for $3000 bucks a person, imagine how much money they make from rich parents who actually think their program is somehow prestigious.

and for the record, they send those "nominations" to damn near everybody with above a 3.0.

Fun, not prestigious. Mine wasn't anywhere near $3000 if I recall correctly.

Umm. waste of money. Unless your rich. Then its a fun weekend.

Thanks everyone! I'll be looking elsewhere then.

Suggestion for elsewhere: Governor's school for Health Care if your state has one. Its more prestigious, probably free, and a lot more intellectually interesting than one of those conferences would be.

I have a Governor's school but not for health care. I applied to mine already
