wow all those publics in a clump in the middle
that's a funny result

I'm surprised to see Dartmouth and Rice at the top. Actually, I've read elsewhere that they value high scores more than do other schools; if you've got a 2300+ SAT score or a 35+ ACT score, you'll be forgiven if you haven't cured cancer.

collegehelp:

would you mind citing the source? The reason I ask is that Berkeley, for example, does not report ACT scores in its CDS.

Yeah Rice! Actually, this doesn't really challenge my current perceptions.

bluebayou-
the data is from the IPEDS website 2005 peer analysis system

got it, thanks.

[Admissions Statistics // Admissions // University of Notre Dame](http://admissions.nd.edu/admission-and-application/admissions-statistics)
probably the highest ACT scores in the country…considering it’s in the midwest

MITpwnsnetc: ^^^I think you are reporting the scores of the admitted class, rather than the class that actually enrolls. For many schools, ‘admit’ scores are higher than ‘enrolled’ scores.

CDS reports the class that enrolls.

Very likely midmo is correct.

I wonder how colleges view ACT scores in comparison to SAT scores? This question is personal for me because I had a 2070 SAT score but a 34 on the ACT, do colleges just ignore the SAT or do they look at both for evaluating a candidate? So could a low SAT even with a high ACT hurt?

Here is some additional data (taken from latest online USNWR) for ACT 75th percentile levels and how the student bodies compare based on the depth of the % of students who scored at the 30 or better level.

I think that this is a very good proxy for the current strength of student bodies across America today for colleges ranked in the USNWR Top 50 National Universities and the Top 25 LACs.

It’s funny how quickly data gets outdated. According to the Columbia website, the 75th percentile ACT for admitted students in the class of 2012 is 35.

pbr,
They can both be accurate. My data is for ENROLLED students; yours is for ADMITTED students. One frequently sees this discrepancy and one has to be careful in reading college websites as they often will post their statistics for admitted students in an attempt to make themselves look more selective than is truly the case.

Yes, I was aware that Columbia’s website data is for admitted students (as of May 1). I thought yours was too. USNWR, as well as all the other publications, seem to me to be generally a year or two behind. (Another reason not to put too much stock in those publications.)
