I was just put on the national Wait list, and my Midwest Supervisor, Major Viles, said that I had a "good standing." Is there anything else I could do in the mean time to help my chances for an appointment with over 400 other ppl on the NWL? -Thanks for your inquiries. -Alex

And does anyone know the stats on the number of students who make the wait list? Most of the colleges I applied to havce May 1st as the date of Statement of Registration... Does anyone know if I could receive and appointment anytime before May?

Keep updating your file with any new academic or extra-curicular accomplishments. If you get any awards, that should be noted as well. My son is on the list also. As I understand the process, once the primary nominees and people who recieved LOA's start declining their appointments, the academy will start pulling people off of the waiting list. The list will probably start moving after April 1st when the colleges send out their acceptances. Good luck!

Thanks lizinva for your insight. I will try my best!

i was placed on the west point nat'l waiting list a few weeks ago. I sent them an email updating them and i got my appointment today! so have hope because they are indeed moving through the list. best of luck to you all

CONGRATS!!!! I'm sure you are ecstatic! I respect your determination to get in despite being placed on NWL. You are the type of person they really need there. Again, heartfelt congratulations.

Congratulations, WP2010!

Congratulations WP2010!

Thank you very much guys!

Congratulations! Now get out there and start running!

My daughter has more information to be added to her file (she is on the NWL) and she thought this needed to be "mailed". She thought via email would not get there properly. Any suggestions or information on this? Thanks and congratulations!!

hmm well I emailed them and they said it was received properly and everything.

I just want to remind those candidates and parents who are still waiting - my son didn't receive his appointment until the middle of MAY!!! He's finishing his plebe year, is in the top 5 percent of his class, and made a corps team sport (he wasn't recruited). So hang in there until the end. It took so long for us to hear that we sent the deposit in to UCLA - my son still has his UCLA email address :) and I continue to receive invitations to donate to UCLA and to go to UCLA parties!

Thanks BigGreen!

Here's some stats that will give you some idea of the chances of getting an appointment offer if you are on the NWL.

For the 2009 Class, there were 2187 fully qualified candidates (NWL candidates should be fully qualified). 1535(70%) of the qualified candidates were extended offers and 1251 accepted the offers.

That means about 285 candidates that received appointments declined the appointments. Many of these went to other academies.

So quite a few candidates from the NWL will ultimately get offers. As discussed in earlier postings, your congressional district as well as your rank on the NWL will affect your chances. That is, if an offer is declined by a candidate in Cong. District 26, then the first person on the NWL from District 26 gets the offer regardless of their position on the list. If there are no qualified candidates from District 26 on the list, then the first person on the NWL gets the offer.

Keep the faith and good luck.
