National Young Leaders Conference

Does attending the National Young Leaders Conference from the Congressional Youth Leadership Council look good in your application? Is it possible that it can increase your chances?

Thank you!

the short answer -- no. Such programs are really not very selective and will not give you a tip or hook when applying to colleges.

However -- many students do attend these programs and really enjoy them. If the topic interests you and your family can afford the costs involved, you may find it to your benefit to attend.

You can list the program on your activities/ ECs is it is something you want to show.

A friend of mine went last summer and she enjoyed the trip. However, like hsmomstef said, the program doesn't really look spectacular on your application. It's not bad to have on the application either but it won't increase your chances overall.

If that's your passion, you would like to go, and you can pay for it, then go ahead. But know that basically everyone gets nominated for it. =p

True story.

Thanks guys! I might go if I get the scholarship 'cause I love politics. But oh well. :)

The only program I've ever dished out money for (through tons of fund raising) was Presidential Classroom. Since you're interested in politics, I would highly suggest PC. Half of it involves touring D.C (I enjoyed it since it was my first time there) but you get access to places inside the State Department and the Floor of the House. I loved the crossfire debates with the other students, especially those who knew what they're talking about. PC offers partial scholarships just if you're interested :)
