I am going to the National youth leaders conference and was wondering how fun it is from people who may have gone before. Also, will this help me get into a college? I will be applying for a Political Science or American Government major so I would think so.

I personally didn't want to waste my money on it, but it is good for you if you don't have any leadership offices held while in school. Colleges know that acceptance into these programs is contigent upon you paying the money to get in, so I wouldn't say it will exactly get you into college, but it would certainly help solidify your interest in your intended major and show them how interested you are in this field.

dunno if it will get you into college but it wont hurt, like gdubz said it shows interest in whatever, i went to NYLC, GYLC, and am going to the PYIC, its fun, i didnt do it for college but for the experience, but i put it on my college app, it doesnt hurt and if you like meeting new people, have the money, or havent been to something like this, id say its worth it to go

RyanC: NYLC is SUCH an amazing experience! I went last April and I had an absolute blast. You will meet so many bright, different people from all over the U.S. And especially if you want to major in politics, I'm sure you'll enjoy all of the simulations that you'll have an opportunity to partake in of the exec., judicial, and legislative branches. That said, going to NYLC won't substantially increase your chances at admission at the colleges that you decide to apply to, but it is certainly worth putting on a resume or as an honor on a college application

Classact05: I got the invitation to go to GYLC. I had a blast at NYLC, so I'm thinking that maybe I'll go. But I know that there are some differences between the two programs. Care to comment on your experience at GYLC?

I did it in spring 2003 and it was awesome! The people I met there were really cool and you do some neat things. It's especially good if you're interested in a political career. Afterwards I kept in touch with a few of the people that I met there for a while, and even now we occasionally IM each other.

jrose: well i think the best reason to go to GYLC is because it is in eastern europe, you get a bit more free time than NYLC to explore the cities and its alot more fun because it is europe! if you liked the style and the way nylc was conducted, if you have the money, and if u want to check out vienna, budapest, and prague, then gylc will be awesome.

o yeah and the food and accomodations are alot better than the nylc

i got "invited" to join it, and i thought it was quite silly, by the by, dont do the new york one ,if you want the "new york" expierience hit me up, and ill show you around. for some reason they fear the subway which is not dangerous, cheap and useful. its waste of money for what they give you.
