Hi,
I was wondering whether this was for real or just a scam, as I've been nominated for the forum on medicine but don't know if it's just a scam to get money. Also, if it is for real and I decide not to attend, should I put on my rec that I was selected as a potential participant? thanx...

Attend if you just want to enrich yourself. It won't help with college admissions. And putting that you were a "potential participant" just looks like you're reaching for items to put down!

I wasn't planning to put it down lol. I just heard from other places that there were some substantial awards that came with it so I was just asking to confirm....

scam scam scam

ok that is DEFINITELY not a scam. I can say so because I actually went to a conference from the same program about a year ago and it was definitely an amazing experience. The one I went to wasn't about medicine though. It was about leadership, politics, etc, so I don't know how would they compare. I recommend you to go if you are actually interested in it (medicine, since that seems to be what you were selected for), it will truly enrich yourself. As to wheather it will help you during college admissions.. well I'm not sure. It may or may not. By itself it probably won't.. but together with other things it will definitely have a positive weight. NYLC is an academic program so if colleges see it on your resume they will see that you are academically motivated. However if you don't decide to attend i think it will be silly if you write it down in your resume as a "potential participant".

Either way, it's not a scam, it's an educational experience. Kind of like a summer camp but more academically focused.

It's an okay program but I wouldn't put it on an aplication form. Maybe on your resume for things you did in the summer, but practically everyone gets invited to one of these things.
