National Youth Leadership Conference

hey, i was wondering if anyone had ever heard of the National Youth Leadership Conference that is held in Washington DC.

i was invited to attend and i was just curious about what it is, if it's necessary to attend, and if it looks cool to colleges

thx.

I don't know anything about the National Youth Leadership Conference held in DC, but I do know that they are lots of fun! (If they follow the same format as in Canada). It's not necessary to attendm but if you were invited, why not participate. It's just people from across the nation getting together and taking some different classes that have to do with leadership, possibly some concerts, guest speakers etc... this is what would happen in canada, but I'm sure it will be similar to what I have described above. They're always a lot of fun, and you get to meet some new people. It looks good on college applications if you actually have a history of leadership.... if you don't I'm not really sure....

I'm going to the Fall DID Forum November 1-6. It looks really good on college aps. You get to meet some interesting people. It not so much classes. There are simulations and trips to different things in DC and the surrounding areas. I have 2 firends that have gone in past years. I'm looking forward to it. I can tell you more about it after wards.

I'm pretty sure it does not have much effect on college apps. However, it can be a fun experience.

They're fun.. but they're freakin' expensive.

Lots of people get those mailings, so I doubt it is going to help you that much for college, unless politics or whatever is already one of your strong points. But do it if you think it will be fun/educational.

I got accepted to the tech one in cally, one major problem...
I'm in NJ and wayy too expensive for us. They make you pay for your own flight.

Yea i got a bunch of those but I don't think they really have much weight in college apps (or at least I am hoping so because they are waaaay too expensive for me)

i'd say DON'T waste your money or time...Did you notice that those came after PSAT scores, like college mail? So they don't really have to do with leadership, they have to do with scores. Colleges know this, since TONS of people get the invitations. Same goes for all the other similar programs...NYLF, NSLC, P2P, etc.
Don't go. Try for other summer programs that actually matter...Junior Statesmen Summer Camp, an internship/job (by far the best, I'd say), RSI (ok now this is the best for the science people), Governor's school, some specialized summer program (Debate camp haha)...

I think (s)he may be talking about the HOBY youth leadership conference in DC, which is not through the PSAT. Also, I think it is free. Your school nominates one participant and one alternate, i believe. I'm not sure if it looks any better to colleges than the ones that you have to pay for.

It was a good experience...but I seriously don't think it's worth the money.

NYLC is in the same bag as those Who's Who invitations that a lot of hs students get. If you have the money to spend and choose to go, just do it for the experience, and not because you think it will help you on your college app...because it won't!

HOBY is good bc it involves school nomination.

Just wanted to know what the PSAT score range for the National Student Leadership Conference is?

You would have to ask NYLC organizers.

okay well if anyone who recieved an invitation to the NSLC could ya plz post up your PSAT score, or if you went and you know the general range of ppl's PSAT

Err...my English teacher told me about it and nominated me for it? I didn't get it in the mail? (I'm starting to wonder if I'm talking about the same thing)

I'm a sophomore and scored a 197 on the PSAT (94th percentile here in Cali).

"Send us $3000 and you'll be a leader!"

All it is really...doesn't mean much.
