National Youth Leadership Forum on Technology. Worth it?

I got recommended by my friend couple months ago. I recently recieved their fancy letter. It sounds like a bunch of b/s cuz of all the exagurrated embellishment they put into the overall package (ie: your superior grades and your exemplary academic record) So what DOES go on in this program? And Is it worth it?

bumpppppppppppp

according to other CCers, they said it's just application-filler material. Plus it costs some $2000 (?). I've gotten it like, 3x in the past 2 years. And it's not really superior grades and stuff like that because my friend who has a 3.0-ish average gpa keeps getting it too. So it's not "exemplary" if that's what you're saying. It's for people who don't have anything to write down in the "achievements" section of the college app.

I'd tend to agree with i_lose. I attended NYLF Tech, and I was really not that impressed with it as a whole. We did get to hear some interesting speakers, and we did get to visit one or two interesting sites and colleges, but I really didn't learn a whole lot about technology itself. I felt that I could have learned a lot more simply by reading a book or doing Internet research in the time that it took me to travel out to CA and attend the conference.

If you want some good application filler, go read a programming book and find a summer job that utilises your skills. Or simply work on an open source programming project...maybe write some linux drivers or something. If software's not your thing, you can do all sorts of independent tech stuff that'll look great on a resume.

thanks a lot.
