Hey...i just got nominated for this thing called like the "National Youth Leadership Forum for medicine" or something like that. Its like this 10 day forum during the summer for high schoolers interested in medicine. I was j/w if anyone has ever heard of it or been to it and whether it's a good summer program or just a waste of time and money.

yeah i've been to it. it's pretty awesome. i went to the medicine one. meet a lotta really awesome people. a lotta fun.

Yeah, last year I received that nomination...unfortunately, i tossed it aside, figuring it was a scam. my friends who did go had a blast, and they met cool people from all over the country. i think i am going to take advantage of my nomination this year, although it really doesn't carry any weight on college apps, it seems like an awesome experience.

is this program worth the money?

anything that starts with "congratulations on your academic acheivement..." I dont even consider.

I went to the medicine one last summer and I wouldn't recommend it... definately a waste of money.

i disagree. it was a great experience. def. worth the money... we even went to six flags :)

I went to that two years ago. It was an awesome experience. I met awesome people; some of us are still really close now. The program itself was totally worthwile. It's worth the money if you think you have any interest in medicine. For many people it helps them realize whether medicine is really for them or not. I spent a morning shadowing a nurse in the NICU of a major hospital in Boston. That experience in itself was incredible. I spent a day touring Harvard Medical School, a place I will surely never set foot in again. During the tour (led my a med student) we had the opportunity to check out (and play with) their state of the are computer systems, and we looked at slides of cancer cells and stuff like that. Some kids that went to a different med school got go actually hold and check out a human brain.
I could go on and on. I really enjoyed the program, and although I've since decided that medicine is not for me, it was still totally worth it.

i got nominated but i didnt have enough money to go

I got a nomination too, along with presidential classroom. I filled out both applications but I've read around here that it's just a scam, but i guess not.
