I got a letter from "Hon William S. Sessions" that is inviting me to attend the 2006 Nat'l Youth Leadership Forum on Law in Washington D.C. next fall. Is this some type of prestigious invitation or do they randomly invite high school students to this forum only for money?

Yeah right, everyone at my school got it. They'll let you go as long as you pay.

yeah i went to the medical one at georgetown... besides the fact that NYLF got me hooked on georgetown, it was a waste of money.

i went to the medical one at emory. it was really fun and i thought i learned a lot. it helped me realize i want to be a doctor.

My friend went on that, and she really enjoyed it. I'd say, if you've got the money and the time, go for it--but don't expect much more than a good experience out of it. But don't expect it to help pad your college applications much.

they sent me at least 5 huge packets haha... hella desperate

oo I want to go . . . how much does it cost? and do people have to apply?

Personally, I went to NYLC two summers ago, and I loved it. I mean, sure it was a bit on the expensive side, and yeah hmmm I really didn't learn that much. But it was an awesome experience at that, and looking back, many of the people in my group while there ended up in some pretty spectacular colleges all around.

all i can do right...now...is......L OOOOOOOOOO L

My guess is that many of the people who go to things like NYLF end up at excellent colleges because they are very smart students who also can afford not only NYLF, but also can afford college consultants, excellent high schools, and SAT prep courses. When it comes to their having attended NYLF, correlation definitely doesn't indicate causation.

Yeah, ummm... I got 6 packets from them (3 of which came AFTER the deadline for which I was supposed to respond by). I was invited to the one in Washington DC in the summer - although this isn't meant to deleterious to anyone who had a good experience in the program - it looked REALLY fluffy (as in little content) to me. For example, much of the program was devoted toward working in an environment similar to congress. I felt like if you were really that interested, you would be participating in LD debate or Stu Co. I've heard of people that have had good experiences - I said no thank you.

Oh yeah, once again it was a fun time hanging out with people from around the US, but yeah tons of fluff, no real learning or activity overall, just a nice long tour of DC's landmarks and you get to sit in the Dept of the Interior and the House of Reps.

Yeah the thing is given to all high school students and they admit anyone who can pay.

u have to have a 3.3 to go...

its fluffy, if i were you i would NOT put it on college apps, but if you wanna shell out the bucks, go i guess

definitely put it on ur application...its something that you've done and nonetheless shows that you stayed active during the summer....Its not going to get you into any college but it looks good

a friend of mine got invited (like everyone), didnt go, but still put "Invited to National Youth Leadership forum summer 2005" on all his college apps.

^^^that is fluff...actually going and puttinng it is not

It's friends who nominate you- so who cares? their financial aid packages didn't look too impressive to me.

7 people last year got accepted by UPenn.....they all went to NYLF

maybe it does help.....at least a little?
