About what percentage should a person be to ethically mark off the "native american" box on their application? 1/4? 1/8? 1/16?

Minimum is 1/16.

It is not simply a matter of checking the box as some schools as for documentation of your tribal affiliation

Does the 1/16 'rule' count for any ethnicity or just Native American?

My understanding was that either one parent had to be 100% URM or both parents 50% URM in order for an applicant to check the appropriate box.

im not sure, but i know plenty of people who are much more lenient when they check off boxes than that

When I looked into some scholarships for a certain ethnicity, they said in order to qualify, one had to have the percentages I stated above. I just figured it was the general rule.

Are you an enrolled member of a tribe?

just for curiousity's sake, how much financial aid is the average that someone who identifies themselves under the "native american" ethinicity box?
