native american population in cornell

i am one and was hoping someone could tell me if there are many n.a. in Ithaca. it's okay if there weren't tho.

lol there are basically none.

I don't think you will find large populations at any top school because they are such a small percentage of the US. What I do think is that Cornell will probably have a larger percentage than peer schools...for instance it is the largest Ivy League school which makes there a larger possibility of more native americans. There are also a trillion clubs so i wouldn't be suprised if there was a club of them. That is really cool that you are one and I am sure that you could create a easily create a related club if there isn't one already.

edit: I looked it up on facebook and the group has 41 people...but I'm not sure if they are all Native Americans or not. http://cornell.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2203760709 That is a pretty large amount of people in that club so I'd say that is a good thing!

one of the multicultural residence halls is native american themed.

yea dartmouth supposedly has a decent population as well, probably more than Cornell. it was founded for Native Americans after all. but yea there is akwekon at Cornell. w/e

people will appreciate your interesting background!! i want to meet you haha

what group are you affiliated with and what state are you from?

last I knew, there was some pretty bad relations between the NA's and the white population at Dartmouth.

yea i kinda heard that...but as far as the university's catering to NAs, i think that the school is solid. that's what i meant i guess. wasn't there some sort of incident there a little while back?

yeah, they've had some things.

Ya you would definitely be accepted at Cornell at the very least. Cornell is very diverse (esp compared to the schools I've attended in my life! lol)

The NA thing at Dartmouth was because of a cowboy and Indian party and in my opinion the administration did a tremendous job handling the matter. Truth be told most Ivy campuses tend to be very "protest" oriented (which is a good thing perhaps) and you'll happenings like things like these at all the Ivies (ex. Columbia's year long protests about graduate student pay, etc).

Anyway, the NA population at Dartmouth is about 4%, there is a Native American Studies program and major (the only one among the Ivies), the "NAD" house which supports a lot of native focused activity. Also, many Native American focused events like the pow-wow" (a huge event) are college sponsored. I think its the best Ivy in terms of Native American community.
