Native American?

I recently learned that my grandfather was a full-blood Cherokee, so I have a slight Native American background n me. However, we don't have any documentation because where he lived (Tennessee), it was considered embarrassing to be tribal, and instead he told people he was white. Does this help me at all in college admissions, or because there is no written record, can I not list it? Thank you!

If your grandfather was a full blood Cherokee he would find it difficult to pass for white especially in the south. Someone who is 4/4 do not blend in to the white population. My wife is 15/16 and could not walk down main street USA and be mistaken for white, I recall traveling with her back east and someone thought she was from Thailand. Lol I suggest you do some research on your family tree. Most culturally connected full bloods that were Cherokee either went west to Oklahoma or to North Carolina reservations.
