ok..
i moved from China to the US when i was in 5th grade..
and im a freshman right now..
cuz i live in KS, that theres no chinese people at all..
and that i took english classes when i was in China ever since i was in pre-school.
i caught up my english pretty quickly
im actually taking pre-ap english right now. and i will take AP english my junior year.
but, because chinese was the 1st language i learned.
and i speak both chinese and english at home..

they said if your native language isnt english they require a TOEFL score.
i was wondering do they mean everyone who first learned another language even though they speak english perfectly fine or do they just mean the international students..

thanks for the reply
and
im sure i can do that
but im really confused about my 1st language,
i speak both english and chinese pretty much equally good
and i cant even write much words in chinese for goodness sake,
but my parent did teach me chinese first..
and they require a TOEFL score if your native language isnt english along with your other info. so they would expect the two test together..

i found these two from their web site!
"Every applicant whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination."
“If English is not your native language and if your primary language of instruction has not been English, you should also take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination.“

the second one says... PRIMARY LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION
my would be english definitely.
so.. do i still have to take it?
aghh im so frustrated

oh thanks stephen.
but what do i tell them?
they're both my first languages?
i dont what them to think that im a liar or something
cuz i want to get in SOOO BADDLY

i think most colleges do not requrie TOEFL if you come from an english speaking country like canada,.....(dont know other names...sorry hehe)..or if you completed high school from such a country...

it would be better to consult with the admission officer through email than take risk...
whats the harm in trying...

On the application I put that Spanish was my native language and I've been learning english for 15 years.(pre-k - 12th grade).

I didn't take the TOEFL even though i put that on my application. I was accepted early decision. So I don't think its a big deal. My CR was only 580. which might be close enough to 600 for them? or They don't care lol. I go for the latter.

congrats for the acceptance NyJeo!
and thanks for telling me this.
i think im just going to say that both of these two languages are my natives..
maybe..
i just dont want to take the TOEFL
cuz my cousin was an international student at another school,
and he had to take it, he said it sucks
