My son would like send his first choice college info to NMSC now that he has been accepted and knows he will be going. The problem is that when he submitted his finalist app, we did not keep a record of either his semi-finalist ID# or his selection unit # (yikes, thought we were being so careful!). Do they really need these numbers, or can he just notify them with his name? Maybe the school kept a copy of the app? Anyone else make this, err, oversight?

Call the NMSC office; they were helpful when we called with some inquiries.

^Agree, I’ve heard from so many that they are so helpful and patient on the phone. I called about a month ago to ensure they had received my d’s documents and she was cheerful and enthusiastic (I meant to do it earlier but forgot).

Does the card ask for the number? It’s been a couple of years, so I don’t remember needing that number.

Yes, call. Super nice people!

Is your son eligible for any NM from a parent’s employer? If so, that will come into play.

My son was able to accept the NM offer from his college and accept the NM offer from my H’s company. As far as NMcorporation was concerned, only the money from my H’s company is the “official” NM award. The award from the school isn’t an official NM award (even though it’s the same scholarship minus $1k). this way, my son got a greater award.

mom2–The card does need both of the numbers…I’ll give them a call, thanks! Did your your son also receive the $2,500 one from the NMSC? Unfortunately, even though my husband works for a big sponsoring company, he is an independent consultant so we’re only looking at what the school will provide.

You are right, there is space for both numbers in the card. My DD just mailed her card yesterday.

They were great on the phone when I called them in the past - they were careful with the information they gave me and verified my DD’s birthdate and oter information before telling me anything.

Good luck

go to their website and there is a form to be filled out. You can fax or mail it back.
