Hey I was just wondering if anyone has heard back from the natural science honors college at UT. I know we are supposed to hear back sometime soon, but I haven't gotten a notification or anything.

I’ve heard back (last Wednesday, got an email) and I was rejected. A few other people I know of got an email last week too and were rejected.

I know a friend who heard back from Natural Sciences Honors a few months ago; January, I believe? She was accepted, however, so that’s probably why they sent hers out so early.

Yeah, I few people I know as well got an email rejecting them last week, but I haven’t gotten a notification saying anything, so I was wondering if I should expect anything or what. I tried contacting them but they couldn’t give me any information.

Hmm I don’t know what to tell you if you already tried contacting them. To answer your question I heard back in December I was accepted but I applied super early. There might a correlation between application date and date you hear back with rejection/acceptance.

Did any of you guys get rejected but receive a guaranteed spot in the Freshman Research Initiative?

deregon1594, which honors program did you get accepted to? The health science honors or dean scholars? Cwillbounds, I haven’t heard of anyone that has gotten into the FRI but rejected from honors.

@Cwillbounds I got rejected, but I got into the Freshman Research Initiative too.

@jetfighter sweet me too. I wanted to do FRI more than CNS honors so it all worked out and I didn’t have to do any extra applications.

I got into the university fellows honor program. Anyone else? Not sure what to expect because honestly this is the first time I’ve even heard of it…

@kamnn1 , I also got into the fellows program. I was really excited at first, but know I have no idea what it is about! Do you have any information about it? Is it a prestigious program?

I just got accepted to university fellows too. i applied to health science honors, but never got a rejection/acceptance letter. i’m guessing i got rejected from HSH, and this is their way of throwing me a bone. i could be wrong, maybe fellows is a great program; this is the first time i’ve ever heard of it as well.

I’m not sure if it’s very prestigious or not, but I would assume so. The e-mail noted that it was “highly selective” and only 5% of honors applicants are chosen for it.

From the wording in the e-mail /9"After careful consideration for all honors programs, we believe that University Fellows is the best honors fit for you") I guess that means we won’t be getting admission decisions for Dean’s Scholar/health science…

It seems to be all about educational diversity with how much they emphasized that in the admissions notice (as well as it being a criterion for admission into the program); however, my transcript doesn’t really reflect that. I took pretty generic classes, honestly.

Also: look at the bottom of the e-mail you received ([SK1]). They forgot to remove an endnote commenting on a sentence in the e-mail, lol.

Tuttifrutti, I applied and was accepted to Health Sciece Honors.

@kamnn1, same here. honestly, fellows doesn’t seem like a program that fits me very well. that 5% selection they mentioned in the email does make the program seem fairly prestigious. that percentage does take into account those who applied and were admitted to their first choice honors program (hsh and dean’s), though.

Yeah. I e-mailed someone to ask if our acceptance implies that we won’t be considered for other honors programs. I’ll post here once I get a response.

I think HSH and DS take in 50 students vs TIP Fellows 350. HSH and DS seems more selective to me

kamnn1, I think that is exactly what the fellows means just because the subject of my acceptance email said “UT Austin CNS Honors Admission Decision”. And that to me sound like the decision over all. And @yetanotherid, how do you know Fellows accepts 350 students?

Per this page, there are 250 Fellows (not 350)…and that is across 4 classes. Assuming an equal distribution, that would be approx 60 per class, spread across Natural Science and Liberal Arts…so I’d say it’s on par with D’S and HSH as far as selectivity is concerned.

I confused TIP Scholars with TIP Fellow. The TIP Scholars program provides a small-college experience for approximately 350 freshmen each year.

[TIP Fellows » FAQ](<a href=“Texas Interdisciplinary Plan (TIP) Scholars | TIP Scholars”>Texas Interdisciplinary Plan (TIP) Scholars | TIP Scholars) :

“(A word about our name: the Texas Interdisciplinary Plan runs two academic programs, TIP Scholars and TIP Fellows. TIP Scholars, a first-year program, is often referred to simply as “TIP.” To distinguish what eventually became TIP Fellows from the first-year program, we named the four-year program the “Texas IP.” When the first-year program added “Scholars” to its name, we added “Fellows” to ours and replaced ‘Texas IP” with “TIP”—most of the time. Because many get the two programs confused, we typically use “Texas IP,” or “IP,” to refer to the program, and “TIP Fellows” to refer to the students in the program.)”

Has anyone heard the opportunities available to TIP fellows? Like scholarships to attend UT? And it is considered part of the honors college right? Like are there chances of transferring to another honors college?
