I have taken and still take AP classes at my high school. I took AP Biology in 9th grade and taking AP World History and AP Chemistry. Does anyone know if USNA likes particular AP courses or does it favor all of them? Also, does anyone know if they give AP credit or do they put you into a higher level class? One more thing. Is it true that they favor class rank more than gpa?
Thanks.
They will put you into a higher level class depending upon the AP. The academies tend to favor STEM classes vs social sciences but any AP will help
Thanks. I will be taking AP Language Arts and AP Calculus AB for sure. However I’m considering dropping down to a lower level for AP Physics or AP US History. Which one should I drop down in? Will dropping down to a lower level decrease my competitiveness? Or should I just take all of them?
According to the Admissions counselors/BGO’s I have dealt with during the process of applying, the two AP courses USNA really looks for are AP Calc BC, and AP Chemistry. They like these, because Calc and Chem are two of the plebe year core courses, and AP’s can easily be used to validate classes. For example, with a score of 4 or 5 on the BC Calc exam, you can validate a full year of calculus. Ultimately, they want to see that you are challenging yourself with a strong curriculum, and BC Calc and Chem are simply two courses that MAY give you a little boost in the application process
