...........................but
SAT scores:
630 math
630 cr rd

I'm so blown. I can't pass this frickkin test. I hate it. I don't want to do ACT for a couple of reasons...USNA prefers SAT and I'm already accustomed to SAT. I wouldn't want to switch. I am going to do another test in January which is allowed for USNA and USMA. I'm not sure what I can do from here. A close friend of mine who is a senior at the Naval Academy has helped me for interviews and personal statement. Do I need to send my personal statement for an LOA. I am not expecting an LOA. All I want is to be accepted my a service academy. Yes my scores are absolute minimum dear god, but my dream is to be a commissioned officer.

PS
-my BGO is sorta slow in response and it takes her like a month to respond. should i take all Q to office?
-is it to late for BGO interviews? I have 6/7 items done (BGO has not responded and I emailed her a week ago from this date)

I think if you really want a shot at this, you’ll sign up for the ACT test. USNA does not prefer SAT over ACT. My DS did much better on ACT than SAT. The rest of your application looks really good. Obviously living in MD is a real disadvantage to you for USNA since it is VERY competitive. Have you had your MOC interviews for a nomination? Do you have any other nomination sources i.e. Presidential, etc.? It is not too late for BGO interview. Your file will not be reviewed until you get the Personal Statement done. What is your plan B? Have you applied for ROTC scholarships?

Thanks MidwesternHeart for your response. Um, yes I actually will consider ACT but I am def going to take SAT again. I understand the MD situation. MOC interview will be around the end of this month and early Dec. I have applied for my congressman Sarbanes and my 2 senators. Presidential won’t be applicable. Plan B is for ROTC although I heard applying for it would transpire after being accepted? Does this decision affect MOC or BGO decision/opinion? Thanks!

You need to apply for ROTC Scholarships NOW. The boards are already going on and they are selecting candidates. I have not heard of the Navy giving the option of a scholarship if you do not apply for one. There have been applicants, however, who applied USMA, were Qualified but not selected who were offered an Army ROTC scholarship, but that is not all that typical. Receiving an ROTC scholarship early has absolutely no bearing on if you will get an appointment to a service academy. I urge you to apply know to try to get your “Plan B” in place in case you don’t get into one of the academies. In my DS MOC interview, they asked what his plan was if he didn’t get into the academy. He was able to say he had already won an AROTC and NROTC scholarship and they were impressed and thought it showed his commitment to serve. He did get the nomination, too.

im not sure how to apply now…I’m applying to college park, johns hopkins, and cornell. on common app, it only asked if you were interested in the program

Okay, I must have been unaware all along. It seems that I need to apply through NROTC’s website directly and not through each individual school.

do SAT scores really hold people from getting a nomination or an appointment? What is the weight of SAT scores? Do good GPAs make up for SATs? Anyways I feel that I am well-rounded.

I suggest that you do an internet search for a website that is “Service Academy Forum.” Start reading through all of the posts there regarding the academies and ROTC Scholarship. There is a wealth of information there to help you, but you just need to start reading.
