Naval Academy Help???

Okay this isn't my problem. Actually its a friend's. It looked like she was going to get accepted by the Academy later this April and she was already given a full ride to a different military school (forgot the name but it was less prestigious than the Academy).

But somehow a minor medical problem she had when she was 5 or something (it wasn't a major problem at all) has stopped her admission process at the Academy and has caused her full ride at the other school to be temporarily revoked.

Now I assure you her medical problem is not bad at all, in fact she has sent doctor's notes etc. to the schools to show that the problem doesn't affect her at all athletically (I think she does 3 sports or something), but the schools are being stubborn.

I was accepted to the school I wanted to go to (University of Michigan) for a while now, so I felt really bad fer my friend because those are the only two schools she applied to. She has called a ton of people for help but each person says "Call Person A" then Person A says "call Person B he/she can help you..."

Basically she looks really down and I thought I would start my search for help here. Anybody have any experience in situations with medical problems in military schools? If so, do you know an actual person who can actually help her instead of saying "call this person."?

Thanks for any help. Btw Remember it is the NAVAL ACADEMY not Air Force or West Point.

Again thank you for anything.

himatg, you are a great friend and this is the information your friend needs:

She should definitely contact Mr Larry Mullen at DoDMERB (Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board - eventhough it is located at USAFA in Colorado, it is the one central place for the medicals for all the Service Academies). He is absolutely amazing and will do everything possible to guide her on what to do next re. her medical status and he can offer her specific guidance on whether or not there is anything she can do, e.g. depending on the medical DQ she might be able to send in personal medical records or go for additional testing to verify whether or not it is still a medical issue/concern. He was an incredible help to my son (vision waiver guidance), but the candidate must contact him herself.

If you go to the Service Academy Forums site, and select DoDMERB, you will find instructions on how to contact him:
[United States of America Service Academy Forums - Powered by vBulletin](http://www.serviceacademyforums.com)

Here is a copy of one of his posts:
"If you have any questions regarding DoDMERB about policies, procedures, your specific case (I will have to verify who you are), or anything else, I am the DoDMERB official to provide you a response. I’m always available and in most cases, will respond immediately, but will respond within 24 hours on all cases.

My email address is ALWAYS open. I’m the DoDMERB Bureaucrat Buster. Give me a chance:) Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil/email

Now that I’ve been at this for a while, I “usually” log in late at night and several times throughout the weekend. The issue is the fact that this is not an “official” site and the USAF maintains a very high level of internet security. So, I can’t access the site from work—I must log in from home.

Thx in advance for your understanding, patience., and the opportunity to assist you"
