I separating from the Naval Academy about mid-way through the first semester of my junior year. I'm a Quantitative Economics major with a 3.26 GPA, I had a 3.4 in high school school, 28 on the ACT, and was an All-American water polo player and played for Navy. I'm from Michigan and right now I'm applying to transfer to University of Michigan and Notre Dame. Are these schools too much of a reach? I'm from Michigan and I don't really want to go to Michigan State because its such a huge party school and I think I could do a little better (probably just arrogance). What are some good safety schools that I would have a better chance of getting into? Will my grades be weighted differently since I'm coming from a service academy?

If you want to be somewhere for the second semester, I think your best option would be one of your home-state public universities. If you are willing to sit out until next fall, you still have several months to sort through where you would like to study and how you will pay for it. Many transfer applications aren't due as early as applications for freshman admission.

You can do well at any university - even one with a party attitude - as long as you have the right attitude and are willing to work hard. Just be sure that you have at least one financial safety school that offers the major that you are interested in.

Good luck.

ah you dont want to be a midshipmen anymore?
