naval engineering

Do you guys know if naval engineering students look for and get jobs with banks/consulting?
I mean this is my theory but naval is really specialized and I assume that people who do it are really interested in shipbuilding, offshore rigs, etc so my guess is that naval students almost all go into their specific industry? Or do they have about the same shot as other engineering students for non-engineering business field jobs because they are still part of the engineering school?

thanks

If you do extracurriculars or minor in something financial related, you’ll have a shot just like any other engineer. Just show some interest and expertise in the field.

If you are interested in finance/consulting why not apply to Ross where you can major in it? Also of all the engineering concentrations mechanical and electrical give you the widest breadth of options for a career. Naval engineering means you will likely end up working with boats (just as you’d expect), as it is very specialized. Of course any engineering requires several of the same classes, so it may not be that way. Why not call the CoE career office and ask them?

I haven’t looked at the curriculum (you can do that) but from my understanding it’s basically MechE until senior year. If that’s true and you’re thinking Naval you can just start as MechE and then change if your mind doesn’t change.
