I am not the expert on this so my current knowledge of this may be mistaken...but with that being said, here is the situation as I understand it.

Beyond the medical requirement that USNA has which ensures an entering plebe's vision is correctable to 20/20, for those midshipmen who wish to pursue a career as a pilot or any other path requiring perfect vision, those midshipmen are automatically eligible for laser eye surgery in their 2nd class year should they be chosen for that particular specialty. Once they have been assigned their career path, chosen or in some cases decided upon by higher authorities depending on the individual's situation, laser eye surgery will be performed, and of course free of any expense to the midshipmen.

This is the policy as I understand it, but things could have changed or I may be off on something. Perhaps one of the more knowledgable posters could confirm or correct.

Good luck!

That is basically correct. However, your eyes still have to qualify for PRK. There is such a thing as being in no mans land where your eyes are not good enough for Pilot and not bad enough for PRK. Mids take their pre commissioning physical in the beginning of second class year. That is when you will find out if you have any disqualifications for any service branches.
