I apologize if this is already posted on this site as a question, but I can't find it, so I'm asking it:

My school uses Naviance to upload documents such as teacher recommendations and school reports. However, I am asking a teacher not in my current high school, and I can't add her to my teacher recommendations list on the Common App.

I applied just to UChicago for early action, so I called in to their admissions office and asked them if it was okay that I added my teacher recommendation to the "Other" list. They replied that it was okay, so that's what I did.

But I fear that might not be the same for each of the colleges I'm applying to for normal (MIT, Princeton, Yale, Stanford, CalTech, Northwestern, UPenn) so I'm wondering if adding my recommendation to the "Other" list is okay. Any answer is helpful! Thanks in advance.

Once your teacher uploads the recommendation to Common App, it will be available to assign to the other college apps. Do you have sufficient teacher recommendations to meet the other colleges’ needs without this new teacher? Do they allow an “other” recommendation? Some colleges don’t have that as an option. If you add all of those colleges to common app, you should be able to see what the options are. You might have to contact admissions at each college if you can’t get other teachers for recommendations to see if you can use this one only.

To be more descriptive: I have two teacher recommendations; neither of which are from my school which means that I can’t add them directly to the “Teacher Recommendations” area because my school uses Naviance.

Mailing the rec to each school all seems to me to be a be more straightforward solution than trying to do an “other” recommendation work around.
