DS is a junior so I am just becoming familiar with Naviance. Does Naviance account for test optional admits in recent cycles? Are test optional admits on the scattergram? Does Naviance have their scores even if they weren’t submitted?
@vwlizard , ask the CC what data is included in the data set. It’s probably possible for them to input them so that TO apps show differently than those submitted with scores.
Every school manages the data differently- from what gets put in, how it is verified, etc.
It was really only last year’s class that was TO at schools that usually were not. (They don’t have results from this year yet. Wanting to see those separately from prior years sounds like a reason request.
I think that would work at your typical school, but my son’s school is so small (graduating class of just shy of 70) that Naviance data is already scarce. I wish there was a way to see data from other schools as well.
FWIW, naviance at are school is self reported which makes the info very unreliable. Finding source school information for the college you’re interested in is much more accurate - or make sure your naviance is being populated by the counselor with verified info.
At our school (BS), the CC did the input so it was very accurate. This was very important to the counseling office as well as students.
Given that the high school was selective and had a rather harsh grading scale, Naviance more helpful than what colleges provided. BUT when there weren’t many applicants, to ptotect confidentiality, more detailed data was unavailable. I suspect there’s some of that for @vwlizard as well. My guess though is that the CCs can fill in where Naviance leaves off.
It must vary by school. At our school the only Naviance data that is self-reported are SAT and ACT scores. GPA and PSAT are auto-populated by the school and there’s no discretion to opt out. so the data is useful. And I think most kids report their scores at our school for various reasons.
It probably varies by school. The data is still very useful at my kids school for a few reasons. The best data is not the scattergram of grades/scores but to look at the bar graphs of applicants, admits and enrolled. Naviance doesn’t automatically do this for you, but if you add up the applicants for every year of the data (0r any range of years you please) and then do the same for admits and then divide admits by applicants you get the acceptance rate for your specific HS to that college. This data is true whether the student applied test optional or not. You have to have a school where most students report their final status to the school which ours does.
FYI on the GPA’s in the scattergram – they are graduated GPA’s, not the GPA the student applied with. If you have a school that weights some classes, typically the final graduating GPA will be higher than the GPA at application time, so just don’t get intimidated by the average GPA since it skews higher than what the colleges evaluated.
