Naviance

What exactly is Naviance? Common app says my high school uses it but I have no idea what it is..thanks

Naviance is a program used by schools and their students &counselors for organizing grades, activities, awards, GPA, test scores, etc. My school uses it too, and its pretty helpful

Many schools give Naviance ids to students and sometimes parents in spring of junior year or fall of senior year. Some schools just have the guidance counselor office use it. Some of the functions (not all used by all schools):

 • There are graphs that can compare your statistics (GPA, test scores) with those of other students from your school who have applied to a given school in the past. It is pretty cool, you can see whether each student was accepted or not and compare yourself on the graph. But that is only available if your school enters that data for each student over time and does so accurately.
 • Naviance is also used by a lot of schools to upload teacher recommendations, and I think they also upload transcripts through it as well. This is where the link to the common app comes in.
 • Our GC office tracked the schools students were interested in (students and parents could add schools to their list) and where students actually applied.
 • I think Naviance has some other features where the GC office can set up surveys for students and parents, etc. Our school does use those.

Google and Wikipedia truly are your friends.
