I never knew about this stuff until you mentioned it prepparent. What a wonderful tool for doing basic research on schools and getting a reasonable idea of how a student may compare against past applicants to assess likelyhood of acceptance.

Obviously I have a lot to learn about prep school advantages!

One question... I'm assuming the GPA used in the scatterplots is the high school calculated GPA (weighted or unweighted according to HS supplied formula).

goaliedad, thanks so much, unfortunately it did not work for me. I'll try it again. I was wondering aboutBlair grading. It appears to be on a 7 point scale. So if the ave grade point a school accepts is say, 5.05, would that be 5.05/7.00= 72%?
GD, when I try to access you links I get the naviance web site saying I followed a defuct something or another. Help Me! lol

Something must have gone wrong with my cut and paste of links. Try clicking MomofWildChild's link and then type "Gilmour" (without quote marks) over "Blair" (also with no quote marks) in that new browser URL line.

That was the technique I used to try different schools.

I'm not so sure on your calculation of 72%.

I think what those scatter plots are showing are the various data points of the actual applicants during the 4-year period with their status (accepted/denied/etc) plotted at the intersection of their GPA (weighted as reported by HS?) on the y axis and their SAT score on the x-axis.

For commonly applied to schools, this is a terriffic tool for a late year Junior to plug in his/her GPA and first SAT score to see where they stand on schools they are interested in.

Blair uses a 6 point scale, but 6 is an extremely rare grade. 5 is an excellent grade. They explain the breakdown in their letter they send with the transcripts. Top 10% is usually a 5.1 or 5.2 average, I think.

Sorry, I have no problem getting on the Middlesex Nav, its that there are no scattergrams. I thought maybe there was something I could do to access the scattergrams. Apparently not. Thanks so much, Guys/Gals.

Mom, wow that makes so much more sense. I thought it was a 7 point system.

Naviance was used at Miss Porter's. MY class was the first class to use it for junior and senior year. Some people think it's great and it is easier for the college counselors. But those scattergrams... oy vay. they will drive you insane as a senior from dec 15-march.

I would like to resurrect this thread. Last year (or was it 2 yrs ago??) people posted their school's guest access info to their Naviance accounts. As our school doesn't let us access Naviance, I wondered if people would be kind enough to post updated access info with guest passwords.
Thanks in advance

I finally got an account on Naviance for goaliegirl's school, but it seems like the user interface has changed and I cannot find the scattergrams any more. Any current Naviance users who can help???

Go into Naviance and from the menu click on My Colleges (if you are in the view your daughter gets), click on a specific collage, then click on graph for the scattergram.
Or from the menu click on About College, then choose Scattergrams.

We just got the account today, so no colleges have been added to her list.

However, when I select a college, say Boston U from one of the sections under "About College", a table of statistics is presented with my D's name on one line and her stats (none filled in yet, as she hasn't tested yet, nor has the school put her GPA in) and the stats for Boston U (GPA SAT ACT Applied/Accepted) from the students from her school.

There are links to the school website, overlaps (where students applying to this U also applied) school stats (more details about applicants including the high/low GPA, SAT, ACT etc.), and add to list.

Unfortunately, I do not see a scattergram link here.

While the school stats link is useful, the scattergram with GPA vs. SAT (x and y axis) with labeled data points is even more useful. Is this something to ask the school to add?

I don’t know, but I don’t think it would be useful. Schools which have purchased licenses add their students’ data to the database, which allows the students currently applying to compare their statistics to the schools’ historic record at particular colleges. If only a couple of students applied to any one college, those records are blocked, due to confidentiality.

Without the data for your particular school, Naviance wouldn’t be helpful. The college search engine on CC would be as helpful, if you know your SAT/ACT scores.
