Can anyone enlighten me on the Navy scholarship in tuition for entering medical students? Do they pay part of the tuition, all, and in return for how many years service? Do you have to be accepted first to a med school? Medical school is extremely expensive, and I wouldn't mind suiting up for a few years to become an M.D. and serving my country. So can anyone tell me any details? Thanks

There is a USNA rep on the service academy thread here. Maybe they can help you.
Personally, if I were starting over, I'd seriously consider taking the military route.

i dont know as much about the navy route, but as an air force doc you start out as a captain (O-3) which usually takes 4 years of being an officer to get to.

the commitment would be 4 years

also take into consideration, if you would want to be on a sub or ship. if you wouldnt want to, you might want to look into other branches.

my bro graduated from the Naval Academy and few of his friends went to the military medical school... uniformed services university of health science (USUHS). My NROTC instructors sister works there and it is an excellent school. If you are part of the military, then tuition is free and i think you serve like 7 years or maybe more. However, you get alot of experience and research and they try to teach you and bring out your potential, rather than weeding you out like most medical schools. I myself am thinking about attending this school . If you want more info....go to this site

Best of luck and i hope this helped!

I went to the admissions talk at annapolis, and the admissions officer told us pretty much. "if you want to be a doctor, annapolis probably isn't the right place for you." he said every year they give out 5 or 6 medical slots so you have to be at the very top of the top of the class and its pretty much impossible.

that is if u go to the naval academy first...but anyone can apply to the military medical school and become part of the military services...also if ur part of the military...u can go to any medical school (if your accepted first) and they pay for your tuition as long as you serve them afterwords
