Andrew Dow Named Navy Lacrosse Team Captain

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Preseason All-American Andrew Dow (Hauppauge, N.Y.) has been selected by his teammates to serve as Navy's lacrosse captain this spring. Dow, who garnered Second-Team All-Patriot League kudos last spring as a member of the Mids' top-ranked scoring defense, is the first Navy close defenseman to serve as captain since Howie Meehan in 1998.

"Andrew was an overwhelming choice by his peers to serve as captain," said Navy head coach Richie Meade. "Usually, the vote is close, but this speaks volumes for the respect that his teammates have for him not only as a lacrosse player, but as a Midshipman. I've been impressed with his leadership over the last several months. He's had a steady career here and I look forward to seeing him lead this team while having an outstanding senior season."

Dow has been a starting member of Navy's defense that has led the country in scoring defense in each of the last two years. Last spring, the Mids' defensive unit surrendered just 5.47 goals per game and allowed double-digit goals only once during the season (in an 11-10 win by the Mids over arch rival Army). Ten of the 82 goals by Navy's opponents were scored via man-up opportunities, with the Mids surrendering just 4.80 goals a game when playing even strength. Additionally, Dow was a member of the 12th-ranked man-down defense that gave up just 10 goals on 40 attempts. Last season, the Mids gave up 32 goals in their first eight games, the fewest since the 1964 team allowed 28 goals in its first eight games. In the 68 years that Navy has played at least eight games in a season, the Mids have allowed 32 or fewer goals in the first eight games just seven times (2006, 1964, 1954, 1945, 1928 and 1920). Navy has held 20 of its last 49 opponents to five or fewer goals, and only six foes (Ohio State, Army, Syracuse in 2004, Georgetown, Virginia in 2005 and Army 2006) have managed to reach double figures.

The Mids open their season on Saturday with a scrimmage against defending National Champion Virginia beginning at 2:00 pm at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Admission is free, however, there is a $5 charge to park at the stadium. Fans are asked to enter the stadium through Gate 5 off Taylor Ave.

Athletically, Kress ran in seven meets and boasted the team's fastest time on five occasions. The native of Colorado Springs, Colo., placed among the field’s top-10 runners four times, including a first-place finish in the annual Star Meet against Army. He followed that performance up with a sixth-place clocking at the Patriot League Championship to earn first-team all-league honors.

For the second time in his career, Olsen was named to the league's academic honor roll after recording a 3.53 grade-point average during the season. The history major owns a 3.39 cumulative grade-point average and has been named to the Commandant's List four times.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The third of a four-part series previewing the upcoming 2007 Navy baseball season focuses on its catchers and infielders. The final part of this year's preview series will focus on the outfielders (Feb. 5). Part I took a look at the starting pitchers on Jan. 18, while Part II viewed Navy's relief pitchers last week. Navy is scheduled to open up its 2007 season with a three-game set at Florida A&M on Feb. 9-11 in Tallahassee, Fla.

CATCHERS

With the graduation of Second-Team All-Patriot League catcher Jonathan Johnston last year, the Midshipmen will be looking to some new faces to handle the catching duties in 2007.

Freshman Steven Soares aims to fill the position after a solid career at Taravella High School (Fla.). The five-time all-county selection earned team MVP honors during his senior season after he hit .450 with nine home runs. Soares also displayed his prowess behind the plate, as he was named the team's defensive player of the year in 2004.

"We really like the skills that Steven brings to the table," stated Kostacopoulos. "However, he was forced to miss all fall with a broken hand and haven't had much of an opportunity to work with him yet."

Competing with Soares for starting time at the catcher position is sophomore Joshua Martinez, who saw significant action as a designated hitter, catcher and third baseman last year. The product of Denver, Colo., led all Patriot League freshmen with a .311 batting average over 43 games, which included 29 starts. He belted six doubles, one home run and drove in 30 runs, 14 of which came during league play.

"Joshua had a solid freshman year despite being put into tough spots in the batting order," Kostacopoulos said. "He's a very aggressive hitter and does a good job of receiving and blocking the ball behind the plate. Like Steven (Soares), he missed the entire fall season with a broken hamate bone."

Sophomores Jordan Rash and Chris Donnelly did not see any action during their rookie seasons, but could be called upon and provide depth at the backstop position.

INFIELDERS

One of Navy's strongest areas defensively will come from its infield in 2007, as several members return from last season with the freshman class providing solid competition and emerging at several positions.

At first base, the Midshipmen are in a three-way contest for the starting job between sophomore Jack Ferrick, junior Thomas Hamilton and freshman Jonathan Berkowitz.

Ferrick saw action in 22 games as a freshman last year, batting .209 with two doubles, one home run and seven RBIs. The product of Stafford, Va., came through in the clutch scenarios, hitting .500 with a home run and six RBIs as a pinch-hitter and was over a .300-hitter with runners in scoring position and less than two outs. Defensively, Ferrick cleanly fielded 88 of his 89 chances for a .989 fielding percentage.

Hamilton started in 52 games between third base and first base last season, batting .290 with 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 29 RBIs. The native of Houston, Texas, had a knack for providing the clutch hit in the late innings, as batted .500 after the seventh inning and drove in more than 70 percent of runners on third and less than two outs. After moving to first base during Patriot League play, he made only one error in 128 chances, good for a .992 fielding percentage.

In just his first season in Annapolis, Berkowitz will be contending for playing time at first base. The smooth-swinging left-handed hitter was a two-time preseason All-American at North Broward Preparatory School in Florida. Berkowitz posted a .363 career batting average with 21 home runs and 86 RBIs, including a .400 average with a county-best 12 round-trippers as a sophomore.

"There is solid competition between Jack, Thomas and Jonathan at first base," Kostacopoulos said. "Jack worked extremely hard and came through with some big hits last year. We are hoping for good things with him. Thomas did a nice job of holding up the order last year and came through in the clutch early in the year. He needs to take his experience and make it work. Jonathan, as a left-handed hitter, gives us some balance in the lineup. He has a nice, smooth swing and think he's going to be real good down the road."

Senior B.J. Bickel looks to hold down the starting job at second base in 2007 after providing solid glove work during his junior campaign. In 38 games, Bickel helped in turning 12 double plays, committed only three errors in 124 fielding opportunities and finished the season with 18-consecutive games without an error. At the plate, he batted .181 with two doubles, 13 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

"B.J. had a very good fall season," stated Kostacopoulos. "He does a good job defensively and makes the plays he can make. However, he needs to become more productive with his at bats, improve his on-base percentage and move runners ahead."

Working with Bickel on the opposite side of the second base bag will be freshman Kendall Bolt. The product of Stockton, Calif., caught the coaching staff's eyes with his performance during his short time in Annapolis. In addition to his efforts in the fall, he carries an impressive high school resume where he earned All-American honors. As a senior last season, Bolt batted .475 and helped Lincoln High School to a league championship.

"Kendall is a talented player who won the job in the fall with his solid defensive play," commented Kostacopoulos. "Being a freshman, he will have to make that key adjustment to collegiate baseball. However, we have a great deal of confidence in him."

Guarding the hot corner for the Midshipmen in 2007 will be senior team captain Michael Garcia. The native of Kailua, Hawai'i, surfaced as a starter in several infield positions last season and finished his junior campaign with a .323 batting average, featured by a team-best .383 mark during Patriot League play. He finished the year on a seven-game hitting streak, hitting at a .429 clip with four multi-hit efforts. Garcia also flashed some glove, helping in turning 14 double plays in 2006. In addition to starting at third, Garcia could slide over and start at second base or shortstop, depending on the matchups this season.

"Michael has emerged gradually over his four-year career," said Kostacopoulos. "He truly took advantage of his opportunities last season and started the final-half of the year. He's a dependable player that when you pencil his name in the lineup, you know you are going to get effort."

Freshman Matthew Curley could see some playing time at second base in the spring. Curley, a native of Boston, Mass., was an all-conference selection at Boston College High School, leading the team in fielding percentage despite playing in the middle infield.

Senior Dominic Lopez could fill in at shortstop, second or third base this season. Lopez helped turn 21 double plays during his 46 games in the 2006 campaign. At the plate, he hit .228 with five triples, 12 RBIs and seven stolen bases.

In addition to serving as a key short reliever this season, freshman JD Melton may get some action at third base. Primarily serving as a reserve infielder with Wofford (S.C.) College last year, he hit .197 with three doubles, one home run and four RBIs.

Competing for time at the hot corner with Garcia and Melton is freshman Drew Lydon. A product of Riverdale Baptist High School (Md.), Lydon batted .508 as a senior with 18 doubles, six home runs and 37 RBIs and earned preseason All-American honors prior to the start of his 2006 season.

Hi GreatAmerican.. Do you know, do you have any way to find out, can you find out why Billy the Goat Mascot wears the 71 jersey? This Mascots photo hangs on the fridges of myself as well as most of my friends and family members, and sits on my desk at work. He is a reminder of my daughter's quest for USNA, and of faith, as he wears the No. 71 which is of a family member, Ryan Boslet, who died on the Football practice field three years ago in February. He also wore the colors Blue and Gold for his High School. He was being scouted by serveral big schools including USNA and USMA but his time came early at age 17. He is our angel and we know he watches us from above. Anyway, if you have anyway of finding that out (About why the mascot wears 71) or who I could contact to find out.. I would be very appreciative. Ryan's mother has asked me to look into it as BILLY the GOAT in the 71 jersey is our hero! :) Thank you so much.

When we arrived home from cvw on Sat. he had a letter waiting here asking if would be interested in sprint football and that he was someone they were looking for. He emailed the coach back today saying he was interested. Question is: do you know much about the program? You seem very knowledgable on most subjects

Thanks we are quite excited and relieved. The link you provided is the same as the literature he received with the letter. Was just wondering if you personally knew much about the sport. If possible stepping stone to getting on the other football team etc.

^^^^^
Your son can always try out for the team as a walk-on. Since the academy requires every midshipman to participate in a sport, everybody has a fair shot at trying out for a varsity or JV team. The team rosters are never completely filled by recruited athletes; hence the coaches depend on walk-ons to round out the teams.

Navy def. Winston-Salem State, 58-39

Big First-Half Run Leads to Navy Victory

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- A 19-0 run midway through the first half sparked the Navy women's basketball team to 58-39 victory over Winston-Salem State, Tuesday night at a raucous Alumni Hall in Annapolis.

The victory snaps a two-game skid for the Mids and improves their record to 9-12 on the year, while the Lady Rams, who are competing as an independent this season during its transition from the Division II level to Division I, fell to 9-12.

The game started off slowly for the Mids as Navy misfired on seven of its first eight shots from the field. Meanwhile, the Lady Rams connected on six of their opening eight field goal attempts and built a 12-4 lead with 14:25 left in the first half.

The fortunes for both teams changed dramatically over the next 10 minutes, however, as Navy went on its aforementioned 19-0 run to take a 23-12 lead with 4:34 left on the clock before halftime.

Navy connected on 7-of-13 shots from the field and all four of its free throw attempts during the 10 minutes, while Winston-Salem State, conversely, missed all 10 of its field goal attempts and turned the ball over seven times.

Navy's post players contributed 16 of the 19 points during the run, with Kate Hobbs (Sr., Wexford, Pa.) tallying six points and Betsy Burnett (Sr., New Holstein, Wis.) adding four points. In addition, both Burnett and Lindi Conner (Jr., Kingman, Kan.) totaled one rebound and a pair of steals over the 10 minutes.

"It was a nice, all-around run for us," said Navy head coach of the 19-0 sprint by the Mids. "We had some good defensive plays in there, which allowed us to score some buckets in transition and that seemed to help us find our offensive rhythm."

Winston-Salem State answered by scoring a quick six points over the next 100 seconds, but Navy closed the half by scoring seven of the final nine points, a run capped off by a long Kalen Kropa (So., Reidsville, N.C.) jumper as the halftime buzzer sounded to give Navy a 30-20 advantage at intermission.

The Mids proceeded to score 10 of the opening 12 points of the second half before eventually holding a 26 point lead (56-30) with just over six minutes remaining in the game.

Navy shot 40 percent from the field for the game and connected on 5-of-15 three-point field goal attempts, while limiting the Lady Rams to 29 percent shooting from the field and 0-of-11 shooting from behind the three-point line. In addition, Navy converted 11-of-12 free throw attempts in the game and held a 45-30 advantage on the glass.

Hobbs totaled 17 points and eight rebounds in the game for the Mids, while Margaret Knap (Sr., Chicago, Ill.) made a trio of three-point field goals on her way to tallying 13 points, four assists and a pair of steals. Joining the duo in reaching double figures was Carly Meyer (Sr., Orlando, Fla.), who finished with 10 points and eight boards.

The game was played in front of Navy's largest home crowd of the season, 1,110 fans, the majority of whom were midshipmen.

"The Brigade of Midshipmen was absolutely fabulous tonight," said Marryott. "They were loud and into the game right from the tip and our players really fed off of them. Their enthusiasm and excitement made it a tremendous environment for us to play in tonight and we all greatly appreciate their support."

Navy returns to conference play Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Mids play host to first-place Bucknell.

Mids hold annual soccer banquet

Navy Soccer Celebrates Record-Breaking Season at Annual Banquet

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's soccer team gathered amongst friends, family and supporters last Sunday to celebrate its record-setting 2006 campaign, the most successful season enjoyed by any women’s athletic team in Naval Academy history. The Midshipmen earned their second NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four years, while producing a school-record 21 wins. Ranked 19th at the conclusion of the season, Navy enjoyed several memorable moments throughout the season, including a 4-0 Star Game win over arch rival Army, a 1-0 victory over No. 9 Penn State, the program's first win over a nationally-ranked team, and none will forget the Midshipmen advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament by way of penalty kicks against William & Mary.

Head coach Carin Gabarra handed out certificates to the individuals who won Patriot League and national awards over the course of the season, while also awarding each player with a medallion from the NCAA for their participation in the 2006 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament. In addition to the numerous honors and awards the players received on a regional and national level, the coaching staff also handed out team awards for -- leading scorer, forward of the year, midfielder of the year, defender of the year and most valuable player.

Senior Meggie Curran (Silver Spring, Md.), who became the program's first All-American after being named to the third team by Soccer Buzz, was named Navy's forward of the year after pacing the Patriot League in her senior campaign in points (39), goals (12) and assists (15). She won numerous awards during the season, including Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region from the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) and Soccer Buzz. She finished the season ranked sixth in the country in assists per game, averaging 0.63 assists per contest, while her 1.63 points per game was the 25th-best average in the nation. Curran produced either a goal or an assist in 16 of the 24 games, and posted multi-assist performances three times during the season.

Curran closed out her career as the Mids' second all-time leading scorer with 118 points on 38 goals (fourth most) and a program-record 42 assists. She led the Mids in points goals and assists in each of the last three seasons. The three-year starter not only is the first Navy player to reach 40-plus assists in her career, she is only the third player in Patriot League history to achieve the feat. In addition, she also holds the top two single-season assists marks at the Academy with 15 and 14 in 2006 and '05, respectively.

Second-Team All-Patriot League selection Julie Reynolds (Sherman, Conn.) was named the Mids' midfielder of the year. One of Navy's most athletic players, she has been tremendous in the middle of the field in her two seasons, possessing the ball on offense, while stymying the opponent's attack and winning countless balls in the air. A two-year starter, Reynolds turned in four points on a goal and two assists, scoring the game-winner versus Siena. She was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 16, after helping hold Colgate to just four shots on goal.

As pointed out by the coaching staff, this year's defender of the year award might be misnamed as the recipient of the award was sophomore goalkeeper Lizzie Barnes (New Orleans, La.). Barnes garnered NSCAA Second-Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region recognition this season, becoming the Mids' first goalkeeper in program history to earn all-region kudos. She enjoyed a sensational first season as the Mids' starting keeper where she led the nation in goal-against average (0.292) and save percentage (0.933). A First-Team All-Patriot League selection, Barnes earned 13 solo shutouts in 2006, a Navy record, as well as a conference record. She surrendered just six goals during the season, including three during the regular season, while stopping 84 of the 90 shots she faced on goal. A three-time Patriot League Goalkeeper-of-the-Week selection, Barnes stood in goal for 859:23 without giving up a goal between Sept. 17-Oct. 29, a mark that will go down in the NCAA record books as the seventh-longest scoreless streak. Her 93.3 save percentage stands No. 1 in the Navy record books, as does her 0.29 goals-against average (11th in NCAA history). Barnes was instrumental in Navy advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She knocked down a pair of William & Mary penalty kicks to lead the Mids to their first appearance in the second round of the postseason tourney.

In addition to her performance on the field, Barnes also excelled in the classroom where she was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team. An information technology major who carries a 3.68 grade-point average, Barnes was one-of-four keepers to garner Academic All-America honors (36 student-athletes on three teams), but the only net-minder named to the Academic All-America First Team.

Shelly Moeller (Milford, Ohio) was an unlikely candidate to lead the Midshipmen out of the back in her freshman campaign. Afterall, she had never played in the back at any point during her playing career. But Moeller exceeded the expectations of the coaching staff in her rookie year and in turn was named Navy's most valuable player. Named a Freshman All-American by Soccer Buzz, she also earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team honors from the NSCAA, as well as Second-Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region recognition by Soccer Buzz. She was named the Patriot League's Co-Defensive Player of the Year, the Patriot League Tournament Most Valuable Player, was selected to the All-Patriot League First Team and was named to the the Soccer Buzz All-Mid-Atlantic Freshman Team.

Moeller anchored a defensive unit that gave up nine goals, including just five during the regular season. The Mids' 0.372 goals-against average was the nation's best and the 14th-lowest GAA in the NCAA record books. In addition, Navy turned in a program-record 19 shutouts in 24 games, the seventh most in the NCAA annals. Meanwhile, the Mids' .790 shutouts per game average was No. 1 in the nation and the fifth-best mark in NCAA history. As a group, Navy played more than 980-straight minutes without surrendering a goal over the course of 12 contests.

Moeller was one of Navy's most explosive players in the air and in particular, on corner kicks. She turned in three assists to accompany her eight goals this fall with seven of the eight goals coming off corners, including four headers. She scored game-winning goals against both Lehigh and Colgate in the Patriot League Tournament. Moeller was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week three times during the season, including Oct. 30 when she made a pair of defensive saves against No. 9 Penn State to lead the Mids to their first victory over a ranked opponent.

The final award of the afternoon was the Ens. Stacy M. Finley Memorial Award named in honor of 2004 graduate Stacy Finley who passed away on March 24, 2005. The award is presented that the senior member of the women’s soccer team whose courage, will to win, dedication and love of her teammates will forever endure.

Stacy enriched the lives of many through her gift of humor, her infectious laugh, her big grin and that favorite yellow pinnie. An unselfish player, teammate and friend, she often spoke of the team's achievements and shied away from her own personal success despite being one of the most decorated players in school and league history. Honored three times as an all-league player, she was twice named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and twice named to the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region team. She graduated as Navy's record holder in career points, goals and shots and owns single-season records in points, goals and shots.

In addition to her many honors on the field, she was a leader in the Hall and was honored multiple times for her academic achievements.

Stacy's parents, Alan and Vernzina Finley, were in attendance to present Meggie Curran with the award. Finley and Curran shared a special bond as Curran looked to Finley as her mentor, her teammate and most importantly, her friend. Curran has worn the No. 14 jersey in each of the last two seasons, honoring Finley.

Navy Ranked No. 1 in Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - According to the latest Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) rankings, the 9-4 Navy wrestling team is ranked No. 1 among the 14-team conference. It marks the first time the Mids have held the No. 1 spot in the poll since former head coach Reg Wicks led Navy to the EIWA team title in 1990.

"At this time of the year, the EIWA poll is based on dual meets," said Bruce Burnett, who is in his seventh season as the Mids' head coach. "We have a very good dual meet team, in fact we have a solid tournament team. We've made steady progress throughout the season and have a much more competitive room this year. It's taken a lot of hard work and commitment by our team.

"I'm excited about being ranked No. 1 in the conference because the other coaches have taken notice of our improvement and rewarded us. The EIWA is a tough conference. Our guys have earned everything they have received."

The Mids, who have jumped from sixth in the original poll to third in the mid-year EIWA poll to now No. 1, own a 5-0 record in EIWA matches, defeating Rutgers (42-0), American (31-9), Brown (35-3), Lehigh (26-12) and East Stroudsburg (40-6). Navy will face EIWA members Bucknell (Feb. 10) and Army (Feb. 18) in back-to-back weekends before traveling to East Stroudsburg to compete in the 2007 EIWA Championship on March 2-3.

While Navy tops the field, Lehigh, Cornell, Penn and Columbia round out the poll's top-five teams.

Eight Midshipmen are among the top six in their respective weight classes according to the third edition of the EIWA Rankings, including second-ranked Matt Stolpinski (Westfield, Mass.) at 174 who is the highest-ranked Navy wrestler in the EIWA standings. Stolpinski, who is ranked 10th in this week's USA Today/InterMat/NWCA Rankings, is just one win away from joining Navy's 30-win club for the second-consecutive season. Boasting a 29-5 record, he has turned in an 11-2 dual meet record this winter. He heads into this weekend's All-Academy Championship on a five-match winning streak that includes four-straight bonus-point wins.

Second-year standout Joe Baker (Poway, Calif.) is one of four Navy wrestlers ranked third at their respective weight classes. Baker has produced a 15-3 record at 133 pounds this season, winning four in a row. He has won seven of his eight dual matches this year, including a 3-0 mark in EIWA competition. He trails Penn's Matt Valenti, who is ranked No. 2 in the national polls, as well as Cornell's Adam Frey, who is third. Baker is also ranked ninth according to the USA Today/InterMat/NWCA Rankings.

Senior 149-pounder John Cox (Grand Haven, Mich.) has been bothered by injuries since the turn of the calendar year, but remains highly ranked by both the EIWA, as well as the national publications. Cox is No. 3 in the EIWA standings behind Cornell's Jordan Leen, ranked No. 4 in the country, and J.P. O'Connor from Harvard, who is the nation's seventh-ranked wrestler. Cox owns a 22-6 record this season, including a 7-1 mark in dual meet action. He has won four in a row, including an 11-2 major decision over Oklahoma State's B.J. Jackson at the Lone Star Duals. Cox owns a 105-35 career record and stands seventh on Navy's all-time wins list, trailing sixth-place Scott Schleicher (1986-90) by six wins.

Team captain John Jarred (Kansas City, Mo.) has also enjoyed a successful senior campaign on the mats where he is ranked third in the EIWA at 157 pounds and boasts a 24-9 record. Jarred is one of only two Navy wrestlers to post double-digit wins in dual meet competition this season, as he has earned a 10-3 record.

The final wrestler ranked third in his weight class is heavyweight Ed Prendergast (St. Louis, Mo.) who is nationally-ranked ninth. Prendergast, who owns a 27-5 record this winter, has won eighth-consecutive matches, including four against nationally-ranked competition. Additionally, five of his wins during that span have been by fall. On the year, he owns a 12-0 mark in falls. Prendergast is 9-2 in dual matches this season, dropping a 6-3 decision to Northwestern's Dustin Fox who is currently ranked fourth in the country, while losing an 11-4 decision to American's Adam LoPiccolo who is second in the EIWA and ranked sixth in the country.

Fourth-ranked 125-pounder Alex Usztics (Dauphin, Pa.) has recorded a 23-11 record in his senior season, the most wins in his four-year career. He also owns a 7-5 dual meet record, winning each of his last two duals by technical fall. The top-ranked 125-pounder in the EIWA is Cornell's Troy Nickerson who is ranked second in the national polls.

Navy's final two wrestlers, 141-pounder Brad Canterbury (Blue Bell, Pa.) and 184-pounder Antonio Miranda (Eugene, Ore.), are ranked sixth in the EIWA. Canterbury has been faced with some tough competition in recent weeks, but remains a contender in EIWA action. He has recorded a 23-14 record this season, nine wins more than he posted a year ago. Miranda, meanwhile, has had an impressive senior campaign, boasting a 25-9 record, including a 9-3 mark in dual meet action. He has won five in a row, including four-consecutive major decisions. He is 12-1 in major decisions this season and 16-2 for his career. Four of the five wrestlers ranked ahead of him are among the nation's top 20, but Miranda could face Army's Scott Ferguson (unranked) at this weekend's All-Academy Championship in Colorado Springs.
