Now that Navy has survived the first eight games of a tough schedule and is tasting a rare two-game losing streak under coach Paul Johnson, the Midshipmen can move toward achieving the goals they laid out before the season. But don't tell Johnson the quality of Navy's remaining opponents assures the Mids (5-3) will finish with a flourish...

Navy quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada walked into the lion's den yesterday for his first career start under center. His team may have got torched but the sophomore, who entered this season No. 3 on the Mids' depth chart, walked out relavitively unscathed....

Man, Army should learn something from Navy and start scheduling easier games. They are going to have a ton of momentum going into the Army-Navy game this year, while Army plays Notre Dame as their final game before Navy. It could be interesting.

"Navy concludes the season against four schools with a combined record of 5-27. However, head coach Paul Johnson insists his team could easily lose to Duke (0-7), Eastern Michigan (1-6), Temple (1-8) or Army (3-6)."

Good for the coach. Victory should only be celebrated AFTER being achieved. Go in as if you think the enemy is going to kick your teeth in, and play not only to win, but to dominate.

Works on the battlefield as well as the gridiron.

I hope we slaughter Duke. They're only a few miles away, and down here you're either Duke or UNC. I enjoy being the odd man out! :D

Two weeks after losing senior quarterback Brian Hampton to a season-ending knee injury, Navy has lost a fixture on its offensive line to the same ailment.

Junior right tackle Josh Meek, who started all eight games for the 5-3 Midshipmen, will miss the rest of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the second half of Saturday's 38-14 loss to Notre Dame. Sophomore Andrew McGinn, who lost his job to Meek after suffering a concussion early in preseason camp, will replace him Saturday at Duke.

"I'm disappointed for [Meek]. He was probably playing as good or better than anybody on the team," Navy coach Paul Johnson said. "We don't have anybody who's going to just blow somebody off the ball. He was sound, didn't make mistakes. He was just reliable." ...

The late coach Elmer Aldridge at Avery County High in Newland used a saying that still guides Navy coach Paul Johnson.

"Coach told me one time, `Never try to teach a pig to sing. It will frustrate you and annoy the pig,' " Johnson said.

That lesson has helped Johnson guide Navy to an unprecedented three straight bowls, a streak the Midshipmen (5-3) will extend if they win Saturday at Duke to cement a bid to Charlotte's Meineke Car Care Bowl....

Win over Duke would give seniors modern day record for wins.

Nov. 1, 2006

ANNAPOLIS, Md.--With a victory over Duke on Saturday, the seniors on the Navy football team will break the modern day record for career wins with 32. If the Mids win the rest of their games, including a victory in the Meineke Car Care Bowl, they will tie the overall school record for career wins with 36 set by the class of 1909.

Navy needs just one more win to clinch a fourth-consecutive bowl bid, which would make the senior class the first in school history to go to a bowl game all four years. A victory in the bowl game would make it the first class to win three-straight bowl games.

The seniors are also a victory over Army away from becoming the first class in school history to win four-straight Commander-In-Chief's Trophies and it would become the first class to go 8-0 in Service Academy games.

Most Wins In A Career By Class Class Wins 1. 1909 36 2. 1908 34 3. 2007 31 4. 1982 31 5. 1964 30

Navy (5-3), coming off a 38-14 loss to 11th-ranked Notre Dame, travels to Durham, N.C. to face the Duke Blue Devils (0-8) on Saturday afternoon at Wallace Wade Stadium (33,941).
