congratulations navy midshipmen on the win against ECU! keep it up this season, so that commander and chiefs trophy will go home with the midshipmen again!
respectfully,

yay!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to military college life. My kiddo got weekend duty. OK - but THIS weekend?!! THIS weekend which is 3 days long!! THIS weekend when Navy Football wins and therefore Plebes got extended liberty!!!!! THIS weekend when she could have been at her sponsor family's picnic and in her words 'listening to REAL music for a change.' Ahhhh the life of an Academy kid.

As I told my husband when she mentioned this to me -in war you don't usually choose your liberty times -

This is the kind of committment young people are learning as a part of their decision to attend USNA.

God bless each one.

amen. 2010 rocks.

Just a note, it is the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy, as in the President of the US.

Peskemom, our mid had duty this weekend because he took it for a classmate who had family coming for the long weekend. He actually had a good time, though, playing in the rain filling sandbags and then being Assistant Company Duty Officer and answering lots of questions, locating mids, and taking care of leaking ceiling tiles. He must be nuts, he actually likes that stuff. ;) Oh well, they'll just have that much more time to be sure they are ahead in their classes.

Enjoy the holiday, all!

one thing so far - I think I've gotten 6 phone calls from her - I think she's partly bored - so dear ole mom gets phone calls - which sure is fun for me - Let's see - food requests - family questions - music requests - school needs - the list goes on.....so life isn't ALL bad with her on duty all weekend! :-)

I just got a phone call too! Only mine was from on top of a Thoroughbred named Nellie. My dd is blessed with a sponsor family with horses--one of her loves. Her sponsor dad is THRILLED to have someone to ride with...

Extra liberty was a true blessing, thanks to the USNA football team, the mids in the stands with lots and lots of spirit, and the Supe! :)

They just refurbished the Hall, for Pete's sake!

Hey, it was even more fun two years ago! During the renovation "they" had managed to loosely reconnect a water pipe in the ceiling without much more than tension and eventually, well, the inevitable happened!:) Flooding on the fifth deck!

Needless to say a) gravity works and b) the trickle down theory does too! Garbage cans were pressed into service and a few days later were still in use under the main leak. Hence, there was, one morning, a large garbage can serving as a drip pan in our son's room when an upperclassman came in to roust the plebes. He charged in the door, and, seeing the ungainly waste receptacle in the middle of the floor he began "training" the plebes by yelling and kicking at the offending can. Unfortunately, the kick connected. Much to the amusement of the plebes, the can tilted dangerously away from the upperclassman and then (yes, remember, gravity works) corrected itself, or, rather, overcorrected itself, and unburdened itself all over the now gasping mid. Good stuff. Unless you have to clean it up. But they said it was well worth the time they spent mopping up to have the rare plebe joy of seeing something so delightful happen to your tormentors.

Good stuff! :)

LOL!

That's a Salty Sam entry if I ever saw one! :D

My daughter said the most exciting thing that happened during her watch (with much sarcasm) was that the male head overflowed!

Ewwwwwwww! YUCK! BTDT. Several times. Over several years and places. It never gets better. The show "Dirty Jobs" always makes me laugh! ;)

So what's the word on this weekend's game against UMass? They any good? I'll be there along with the rest of my misguided classmates, and we're hoping for a VICTORY!

Lord knows we saw few enough of them back in our day....

BTDT?

I'll be at the game but dont know anything!

BTDT = Been There, Done That.

I'll be with the drunken bunch of hooligans on the NE side of the field. You'll be able to spot my chrome dome and jelly belly from anywhere! :D

Navy should beat UMass pretty easily, they're not even division 1A. But then again, Navy should have beat ECU pretty darn easily too......grr. Well I hope to make it this saturday as well. I'll have my dark blue summer seminar shirt if anyone else is going.

Who cares how hard or easy it is, so long as we WIN. :)

UMass is no pushover. Navy has lost to 1-AA schools. Consider that they take many excellent transfers and JUCO grads plus their own recruits, 1-AA programs especially the top tier schools can hold their own against non-BCS schools. Just ask Colorado...Montana State won. Skylar Thornton who was highly recruited out of HS and played for UF as a backup tailback just transferred to GA Southern. Skylar was more highly recruited than anybody Navy has recruited in the past 4-5 decades and believe me, he can still play. Until Navy's option offense is clicking and BH starts hitting his receivers, the first few games even against teams such as UMass could be close. The key will be Navy's defense. With offenses getting less time on the field because the NCAA's clock changes each possession is critical. Go Navy!

For complete details on Saturday's game:

Too close for my comfort! It took awhile for my heart to resume normal beating! BUT WON!
