NC Governor's School 2020

Hi all! It’s so amazing to see so many wonderful individuals on this thread! I will be attending GSE for social science this summer and I’m beyond thrilled to meet everyone.
See you guys soon!

@biblioxphile Congratulations! Looking forward to meeting you!

I got in for Instrumental Music at West but I am scared abt the corona virus affecting GSW. Hopefully we r fine!

I got in for cello at GSW ! What instrument do you play ? @itbelikethatfr

I will be attending GSW for natural science! Congratulations to everyone and I am excited to meet y’all!

@kelpen yay congrats!! west is best!!

has anyone heard anything about how the corona virus might affect governors school? i know some people were talking about it earlier, just didn’t know if there were any updates. i really hope it doesn’t get cancelled, i’m so excited to go!

Congrats to @biblioxphile, @itbelikethatfr, @penguins1447, and @kelpen on your decisions! Hopefully they are giving you something to be excited for in these unpredictable days. Stay safe, everyone!

Since we have a West thread, do East people want an East thread?

@estye2409 @ApostropheUsage sent an email to gov school asking for details on that. Afaik she hasn’t gotten a reply yet. I’m very nervous myself but trying to take it one day at a time. My paranoia is going in and out, and I’m sure that is very common right now, so while the thread should stay somewhat on-topic, feel free to discuss life during these “virus weeks” and how you are feeling about it. We are unfortunately all impacted by this so we might as well support each other in the process.

Congratulations to all those recently invited to GSW!

@isla701 I vote in favor of the east-exclusive thread!

@ApostropheUsage and others, we now have an East thread!

Anybody got an email from gov school yet?

It’s not cancelled yet, but I’m sad, you guys. There was an instagram gov school bingo circulating among people from last year and it just put me down in the dumps. The models aren’t looking good for us, and forms/tuition are on hold.

My first concern is for the sick and healthcare workers, but in my personal life, this likely cancellation is 100% the most disappointing part of this pandemic.

I hope you all are safe and healthy. I’m so sorry things are turning out this way.

@isla701 yes, I agree. I think gov school will be cancelled. Do you think all summer activities will be cancelled?

@annama314200 Yes :frowning: Everything that’s not online, anyway. Not sure about my friends with restaurant jobs, but in terms of enrichment stuff, yeah, I think it’s all gone.

I don’t know about you but I would almost rather not have gov school than have them move it online as other summer programs have been doing. The residential experience part seems to be the whole point, and if that’s not possible, I would rather just do an online class through my community college (I’m in early college and I reserved a spot in a class yesterday even though GS hasn’t been cancelled yet).

The saddest part is not being able to meet some of you in person :frowning:

@isla701 I was thinking that they postpone it and cut the program by like 1-2 and and a half weeks and do it in july instead of june. like beginning of july or mid july. That would be the smart thing. And online would not be possible for Instrumental Music. I do feel that if they do cancel it then everyone who is a sophomore should get a spot next year.

@itbelikethatfr I’m not really counting on the virus being better in July than in June. It would be nice, but from what I’m reading, if we aren’t all stuck inside for the rest of the calendar year, we might have to do “whack-a-mole social distancing” where we go between distancing and not by the week. That would be too chaotic to hold GS.

I think it’s going to be a pretty late decision by the GS folks (hopefully before the end of May though, because my backup plan starts then). We know what to do now, when the case numbers are exploding, but when they go back down it doesn’t appear that anyone is sure of whether to keep distancing, only let the immune back out, etc. No one really knows

Fingers crossed that you’re right, though!

Also, that’s true about Instrumental Music. :frowning: I do hope that sophomores can get a spot next year if it’s cancelled. My mom has even advocated for interested seniors to be able to participate next year, with the funds held over for both class of '21 and class of '22 to go. But we will just have to see.

hi everybody, I was feeling bummed about the possibility of no gov school and I found this thread.

anyways, hi! i got accepted to GSE, along with my best friend. i’m in the natty sci discipline and she’s in (visual) art. we hope to meet you all despite these very confusing times.

stay safe and congrats to everybody!

Hi, @partyisntover! I’m glad you found this thread!
We are all bummed about that possibility. I think it’s part of why the thread is so inactive now. I hope that we will still be able to go and if we can’t, that we can use this thread to support each other.

Congrats to both of you!!! I’m so glad you both got in, that’s amazing!! You stay safe as well

Well, it has been confirmed.

It’s cancelled : ((((((((

Kinda upset because I don’t even know if they’re gonna explore the possibility of upcoming seniors participating with the rising junior class in Gov School ‘21.

It was nice to meet everybody, even if it was just in a thread. <3

Im going next year because i am a sophomore
