NC State 2023 Admission thread

My son who was deferred ED now has an NC State email address. Sounds like they are moving towards making RD notifications. Hope this is good news.

How did he know about the new email address? Exciting!

His older sister is a student at State and looked it up.

Can you tell what major he got into?

Going to vent alittle as a NC Parent, also looking at Va Tech, and seeing others posts. These students have very good scores, (solid courses), extracurriculars, etc and ARE getting accepted into Va Tech (a selective school, arguably much higher overall national engineer rankings) OOS and other lesser ranked colleges(offered reduced tuition) but deferred (denied TBD) at NC State. Something fundamentally seems wrong with that. All these schools have ‘increased’ applicants and percentages allocated to instate vs instate. Its going to be interesting to really dive into the numbers after its said and done and hopefully no funny business like whats happening at UNC.

@markmil1 we are in Wake Co and I agree, it is a gamble getting into NCSU and UNC here.

Same @ITBgirl Wake county :frowning: means we go out of state and pay twice the tuition even though kids from Wake have higher scores than what gets accepted to NC state from other counties. I understand the need to admit kids from all counties, but the scores don’t lie and they take a percentage of kids from each county regardless if the kids from other counties have much much lower scores.

@markmil1 - what do you mean about the funny business that’s happening at UNC? I totally agree that really strong kids are getting weird results at these 2 schools - so ridiculously unpredictable. I previously thought working hard, doing well, engaging, challenging yourself and excelling was enough, but the results are proving otherwise.

Here’s the link, but this lawfirm (same on after Harvard with the asian case) is REALLY after UNC. I personally know of this occurring so glad its coming out. https://www.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/article224757455.html

Chiming in to to say it is not just the larger counties we are from a Tier 2 county. My older child went out of state a few years ago, it was a tough time. NCSU was first choice school, but got deferred then waitlisted. A classmate from the same HS got in to NCSU with ACT sores 10 points lower, GPA .55 lower, and less extra circulars. Fortunately there were scholarships at all of the OOS options that made it more palatable. I still don’t understand the process at NCSU.

Nonetheless, I am here to wait for child #3’s RD at NCSU hoping that this child will have a better outcome.

My D15 had great stats and great grades and wanted UNC, but I was so worried that I forced her to look at other schools. She did get in UNC but by then she was over it. Now I am starting to look with S20, and I am already stressing.

My cousin moved to Johnston Co before her kids started HS so that they would have a “better chance at UNC”

Thanks for the link, @markmil1. It will be really interesting to see in the next 5 years what happens in college admissions - the admissions scandal and these lawsuits might lead to some big changes. Unfortunately, living through it now is less than ideal.

My friend searched my name up in the search box and my ncsu@edu email showed up. Does that mean I’ve been accepted? I applied regular decision.

For those of you who have discovered a new ncsu.edu email address we’re they searching on the regular main site or were they going through some other student portal to find it?

Don’t know anything other than that he has been assigned an email address. Based on earlier decisions following the assignment of emails, I’m taking it as a positive sign.

I wish these “email findings” helped in some way to predict WHEN students might hear officially.

From ED, when students were trying to check emails, i think its an indication a week or less out…so probably starts this friday.

I called the NCSU Admissions. They can’t officially say when EXACTLY decisions will be released but “historic dates are a good indication of what will happen this year.”

So if the past is truly a predictor, this Friday will be the day they release RD.

Late to this thread but wanted to share my daughter’s profile in case it helps. ED Acceptance.
