I applied for early admission to NC State and received a deferral letter. I am a in-state, white male. My weighted GPA is a 4.52 and my unweighted is a 3.72. Class rank = 14 out of 220. My SAT scores are not very strong, although I plan to retake the test soon in January. 1630 (total) 520- reading, 590- math, 520- writing. I listed my first major as "Engineering- undecided" and my second as "Finance". I recently had my second major changed to textiles because it is less selective. I have tons of EC and also a very strong personal statement.

I am wondering if anyone with similar credentials had the same, or a different admissions decision?

Also if anyone has any tips on ways to stand out to admissions please share them!

I am wondering the same thing…my daughter applied EA2 (by Nov 1st) and her status still says “Scheduled for Decision” online.
I think once they go for the second round of admitted students you will get in for your second choice major. They want a high math score for all Engineering majors. My daughter has similar stats to yours but she wants to major in Animal Science so I am hoping for the best! Good Luck!!

It is VERY hard!! We only applied to 3 schools and she got into 2…one being UNC-W (which she is very happy with). They have a really good research facility and a Pre-Vet option that will let her transfer to NC State for DVM so she excited. She is involved a lot with the FFA (Future Farmers of America) and UNCW doesn’t have that so I think it will be a difficult decision if she gets into NC State as well.

Purdue is a great school…I give you all the credit in the world for letting her move to IN!Mine was going to apply to Cornell and they heavily recruited her to apply since she is part Native American…but I couldn’t have her in upstate NY! I figured that NC State is #3 in the country for Vet schools and we live here with in-state tuition so that was the better option. We are originally from MA and BU was a possibility for a short time but the cost is just crazy! Good luck!

ughhhh all of her schools are far away! Ohio State too

Applied to Cornell- she was called yesterday for an informal interview- She doesn’t really want that to be #1 but it’s closer to home and cheaper then Purdue as the Ag school is Land Grant

Just wish this was all over and I don’t know why some schools are soooooooooooo slow to make decisions!!

I applied during EA1 (October 15th deadline). I hope to increase all of my scores, but I have been studying for the math portion specifically. Textiles is not really something that I would like to do, but if I get accepted into my second choice does anyone know how difficult it would be to switch into my first choice once I got there?

@taac33 I am in - state and I was deferred from NC State as well. I’m anxiously waiting for March when they give us our final decisions. My stats are similar to yours but my selected majors were Human Biology-Life Science and Psychology. Crossing my fingers that I get accepted in March! Good luck!

@foodie0830 Good luck to you as well! I just retook the SAT and waiting on those results is gonna be just as tough. Cant wait until March though!
