I think there are degree programs which make it worth the OOS for some students (particularly the Textile/Textile Engineering majors). Plus, it’s close proximity to RTP provides many opportunities for research, internships & jobs.
Those looking to major in engineering of any type often have to cast a wide net, resulting in many out-of-state options, which makes NC State a viable contender for those programs.
Agreed. My point was more the cost:benefit. It is VERY attractive for in state applicants because it is very inexpensive (as US colleges go). From out of state it it has to compete with all the other out of state schools dollar for dollar. Still a good school but not too choice for some candidates who would have it as their top choice if they were in state.
Exactly: DD OOS finds any aid NCSU would give subpar with the $62,000 dollars a year ($248,000/4 Years) offered by the University of Miami (Aerospace Engineering).
Yes!!! Keep in mind the Total Cost of attendance per year at the University of Miami is $77,000 but, the 62K made the cost comparable to any in-state college.
U Miami is a mid-size private university however, so comparing merit offers with a with a very large public U in a different state isn’t quite apples-to-apples.
Curious if your DD was up for the Park scholarship at NCSU?
Son got accepted in Engineering for the Paper science intent but did not get chosen for the chance to interview for the Super Scholars. A lot of money to go OOS. Anybody have experience on how much aid they give to OSS people.
Thank you so much!! I definitely understand. Private money and public money are two totally different pots of funds. No she was not in consideration for the Park Scholarship.
Thank you. Congratulations to your daughter as well. I have to agree. My bank account doesn’t know the difference when it comes to Scholarships and Financial Aid Packages!
You have to first create your Unity ID and 3 security questions, then update the password to the permanent. This will allow you to log into Pack Assist. Hope that helps!
You can fill out the housing request without committing to NC State. There is no money involved and it is non-binding. My son filled his out almost immediately after getting his acceptance last year but not commit to state until right before the May 1 deadline. He and his chosen roommate were placed in one of the best, in our opinion, housing choices on campus this year. Good luck.
My son was placed in wolf village and LOVES it. However I don’t think you can request it as a freshman (at least I was told it wasn’t on the form). Last year students were not allowed to rank dorm preferences and he and his chosen roommate were randomly assigned it (they were rising freshman).
