Look like this is a chat for guidance or independent counselors ahead of decision release - makes a good case for next Friday then.
UNC NEVER answered 5 emails that were sent and when called to ask the same question, they didnāt know how to answer it. We ended up not applying to UNC because of their lack of clear answers to concerns we had about one of their programs.
wow! Have no idea why they called me but they did.
@Stephlw I hate that you had that experience. I had a question and called admissions and received an immediate answer. When I called NC State with the same question, it took forever to get a person on the phone and they then told me that they wouldnāt speak to me, they had to speak to my son. All I wanted to know is if they need an official transcript with the application, it wasnāt a student specific question.
The state schools are understaffed many times especially right now. They tend to get frustrated answering questions concerning information that is provided on their website, in the application, and/or in the information in the emails to the applicants and guidance counselors. Most high schools know what is needed and batch the transcripts out. If home schooling, most colleges have specific information posted for those individuals.
FYI- this is an older video and refers to Brandeis university with about 12,000 appliants, and I am sure it is more computerized today, but gets to the point of how a state University like NC State processes 31,000 applicants in one year:
Thanks for sharing that. Very interesting. What I donāt like about this college admissions process is that even though they try to get a picture of your kid, they really donāt in many cases. Mature kids with lots of support and maybe a good sense of what grown-ups want to hear will present much better than a quiet, maybe immature kid who isnāt savvy. Itās a very rigged system in favor of those who know how to manipulate it.
some of it does makes sense because there is over 31,000 applicantsā¦there has to be some sort of automatic system in the beginning. But it is really up to an admissionās officer ābiasā ā¦if that is the correct term, that is used for kids who are on the brink of getting in.
Wake County, Durham, Franklin, and Johnston county schools are closed on Monday 1/24. Not sure if this will delay release of admissions or not.
Most likely not. Thereās not too much snow left and we still have a few days left! Gotta hang on!
Not too many days before the 30th regardless lol. Unless they did was Penn state did and just ignore the deadline altogether.
really! What did Penn State do?
They posted a decision date for EA of Dec 24. Then they tweeted about the date etc to confirm it. Then on Dec 18 they sent everyone home for the holidays (sort of a surprise holiday for all employees), so all of us expecting to hear by Dec 24 heard nothing (some heard before Dec 18). My son finally heard Jan 8 or so. It was super weird and there wasnāt a hint of explanation from PSU. In comparison, when Pitt got flooded with apps they sent a note out saying there would be delays, which is all you can ask for really.
Still have not heard from penn state. Not sure if we will hear by Jan 31 which is the next date for rolling admissions.
Super frustrating. Hope you hear soon!
Another day. No news! Hang in there moms!
Iām expecting it to be Friday. No sense driving ourselves nuts all week.
Also, not just moms on this board. Plenty of students and plenty of dads have to hang in there, too! Probably a bunch of grandparents, too.
Worried student hereš Iām thinking Friday tooā¦ maybe same day as CH? Wishing for sooner of course but expecting a few more days of waiting.
Yep! 3 more days it seems!
Good to know! I wasnāt sure! Good luck to everyone!
