So, the housing applications are open today, and I’m trying to see if people have any info, opinions…
My son stayed in the Honors Dorm for three years -loved it.
Any first hand knowledge about Alexandria, Bowen or Carroll? DS is hoping for Engineering Village as a Computer Science major, but if not then these would all be in Close proximity to Metcalf (houses Engineering Village) as well as in Central Campus, which seems like a good location for first year classes.
My son will be in School of Design (Architecture). He listed North, Gold, and Syme for dorm choices. Anyone else have any input or suggestions while there is still time to edit?
Curious what other design students are listing.
@ParentOf2022 My son lived in Bowen his first year and really liked the location, enough to request staying there his second year as an RA. D18 has not officially decided yet but is leaning heavily toward State and is listing Bowen as her first choice for housing, followed by Carroll. I think the central location is really popular with first year students.
@xyxyxx thank-you! That is great to hear! The Central location is better for first year classes and near a dining hall? I need to google that.
How does your son like the suite style? Would love any tips about dorm life. The needs to bring, would be nice to have, don’t need, etc…We were looking more at classes and didn’t think about food. My DS tends to get focused on work. They talk about freshman gaining the first year, I can see mine losing weight.
My DS was heavily leaning State after having thought Chapel Hill would be his choice this past year and this weekend was offered a large scholarship to attend Wake Forest…which we have not even visited and he has to decline or accept the Scholarship this weekend! Was supposed to be a nice back up school incase he didn’t get into Chapel Hill or State (both have better programs), but neither are offering him $$ and now he’s completely undecided again. Hoping he decides against Wake, otherwise we’ll be visiting on Friday
@xyxyxx sounds like Alexandria may be more of a “party” atmosphere. Would your son suggest a 3rd option for dorms? My son is all about his studies. They come first, always…at the same time he doesnt want to have a long walk to first year classes if it can be avoided.
@ParentOf2022 I will get back to you when I can get some answers from my son. He’s getting ready to graduate - lives off campus now, has a part time job and is preparing for some travel and a graduate program. To say I sometimes don’t get a response right away is an understatement! But he’s especially busy at the moment. I’ll find out what I can, though.
Congrats on the WF scholarship!
@xyxyxx whenever you can, is great!
Thank-you! Right now I thank he just feels good to have a school offering him some serious $$$$ after working hard, while others played. I expect the $$ signs to fade and NC State & Chapel Hill to become his main focus once again…but, if I’m wrong maybe we’ll visit and it will be his perfect fit. Trying to have faith that in the end, he’ll end up where he is meant to be
@ParentOf2022 - My other son will be at NCSU, in the Honors dorms, hopefully. He’s not the partying type, either, turns in by 10, up by 5.30. Studious type. Hoping he finds likeminded room/suite-mates!
@Essel right?!! I think that’s my sons only fear…the unknown roommate! Mine is an only child. The whole sharing of one space is going to be rough and an inconsiderate roommate…hoping for the best! I think most want to get along and make the best of their living situations. Unfortunately mine was waitlisted for honors. Still hoping he makes it in. He fell in love with the progr. Once he decides on a school 100% I’ll have to try and get him to hit a roommate page, he’s fairly anti social media.
Pretty sure he’s back to choosing between Chapel Hill and State. Leaning State State seems to have the best Computer Science program for him & he wants his best program, but part of him feels pulled towards Chapel Hill.
Do Tucker and Owen have extra long twins? Help me out!
@chb088
all the twin beds on campus are XL twin.

Looks like mine will be in the Engineering Village for first year if at State. But…now there might be a first year scholarship for him at UNC…Really!!! Need to make some calls.
@ParentOf2022 - Are you, by any chance, heading out to Chapel Hill this Sunday?
@Essel yes, we plan to. Though we may only stay through Academic Sessions. It will depend on how much school work my son needs to finish on Sunday.
The housing link above is really helpful. Floorplans included!
@xyxyxx how did your son like being an RA? Did it eat up a lot of his time or was he still able to pursue clubs, research, internships, etc…? My son will be in the Engineering Village in Metcalf. Central location which seems like a good spot and excited to have all first year COE students in his dorm.
@ParentOf2022 I’m just seeing this…sorry for the delay. He really liked it! He did it for two years and lived off campus for senior year. He still had time to do other things, like leadership positions in a fraternity and summer internships.
Has anyone got their assignment yet? If not, is there a scheduled date to when they will be released?
