NC State - Mediocre to Decent Stats

Can someone please tell me what my chances are of getting into NC State University as a first-year student?

GPA - 4.29 weighted (essentially a 4.3)
Class rank - 10.7%
ACT - 25 (this is what I’m most worried about)
AP classes taken by graduation:
AP Statistics
AP English 3
AP Biology
AP European History
AP English 4
(Everything else has been mostly honors courses, other than electives)

Speaking of electives, I’ve taken French 1, German 1, German 2, Japanese 1, Japanese 2, Chinese 1, Chinese 2, and I’ll be taking Chinese 3 next semester. My plan is to major in certain languages and get a teaching degree and I’ve mentioned this in my application. Do you think they’ll consider these classes along with my plans after high school?

I’d say I have around 100 or so hours of community service but I’m not entirely sure, as I haven’t taken the time to add them all up lately.

So, what do you think? I’m hoping my chances will already be slightly decent since I’m not applying for engineering which I realize is a really competitive area for this particular university…

Also, I am applying through Early Action, which I believe is binding for them.

I’m applying Early Action too. It’s non-binding.

My D graduated from HS 2013 and applied EA by Oct 15, 2012 and was accepted. She got a 24 (given to entire senior class, she did not prep) on ACT but submitted the (old) SAT she took 3 times, superscored to a 1250 M+V , total of 1800. Her weighted GPA was 4.14 and she was 52nd in a class of 330 or so. She took 4 or 5 APs. Also:

  1. We live in NC. Residency in NC is a big plus.
  2. Admissions staff told us in the info sessions that NCSU only looks at GPA, SAT/ACT, class rank. She said they don't look at letters of rec or community service.
  3. My info is 4 years old. So beware....
  4. It depends which school at NCSU you apply to. Design and Engineering are the 2 most difficult. School of Eduaction would be easier admit. My D was accepted into Animal Science.
  5. Cost is well under 20K per year, cheaper off-campus. My D moved off campus after her freshman year. Few jrs and srs live on campus.
  6. Volleyball2017 is right, EA is non-binding. EA is definitely the best way to apply. My D found out she was in by Dec 10, though I have heard now applicants are not finding out till after Jan 1.
  7. My D also visited App State and UNC-W, and applied EA also to UNC-W and was accepted but NCSU was first choice. I'd apply to some safeties EA also.
  8. It looks like an ACT of 25 equals a new SAT of 1220. Similar to an old SAT of 1770.
  9. zapsap, I am not the adcom, but I'd say you have really good chance in getting in!

Thank you so much! That gives me hope. Now the only thing that worries me is if my essays were okay haha

Bump.

Decision time is closing in and the 2016 applicant pool looked pretty tough. Can anyone give a new perspective on my chances? :-S

Are you in state? if so, I think you have a decent shot.

Did you get in?

I got deferred in January, but I was just accepted for regular decision!!
