Hey everyone,
I currently go to East Carolina, and while I do like it, I don't think it's exactly what I'm looking for in terms of academics. My department isn't that great and the students I've met just don't care about their education for the most part. I'm hoping to transfer to NC State after next year and major in architecture. I've heard they have a pretty good program for it and I enjoy Raleigh much better than Greenville as well. Right now I have a 3.3 GPA with all A's and B's, and was wondering if that is good enough to get accepted as a transfer student. Does anyone know what GPA the university generally accepts and if I have a good shot? Please help me out!

lol, NCSU and ECU parent here. Your 3.3 will prob. get you into NCSU. Getting into the College of Design is another matter altogether. Why did you go to ECU if you wanted to major in Arch? What is your current major at ECU?

Entry into the College of Design (Arch) is very competitive. Do you have a portfolio? A limited number of students are admitted each year. I believe you have to have an interview with faculty member and a portfolio of your work to show. I would think it might be difficult to transfer into Arch as a junior having not been in a Arch program previously.
You should contact the College of Design at NCSU to get firsthand info.

UNC-Charlotte also has an Arch. program. You might want to consider that as well.

PackMom,
Thanks for the reply. ECU has an architectural design program, which is a little different, but has the same concept. That is what I am currently majoring in. I just don’t think ECU will give me as good of an education as I am looking for. I’ve heard the college of design at State is very competitive but I will be taking some architecture related courses next year as well as 2 that I completed this past year. Do you have any other suggestions as to what I can do to boost my chances of getting accepted? I’m going to visit in August and I’ll ask all other questions then in person.

Hey I just wanted to say that it must be really tough to transfer into college of design I was just at transfer orientation and out of like 400-700 people only 2 got up when they called the college of design people. The majority of the people there were school of engineering or school of agriculture and life sciences or school of management. Also when I applied to transfer in the guy at admissions made it seem to me that if I didn’t get in the school I applied to I would not be an accepted transfer?

yes, you are accepted/denied based on which college within NCSU you apply to.
You apply directly to your major at NCSU.

I current attend wake tech community college. I am in the phi theta kappa honors society, with a 4.0 gpa. I will take pre calc in the summer. My highschool gpa was really low though it was around a 2.5. But my college classes so far i have gotten straight As in. I am trying to get into the school of humanities and sciences at nc state this fall. what are my chances?

And i will have more than 30 credits after the summer semester.

momo19, congrats on your great success at Wake Tech. I think your chance of being accepted as a transfer into CHASS at State would be very good. Good Luck to you.
