Daughter just got accepted too!
Program Accepted: Engineering First Year - Biomedical Eng. Intent
ACT: 34 (Composite) / SAT: 1420 (CR + MA)

Not sure if my daughter wants to apply to the honors college (she’s sort of 'essay’ed out right now) but for anyone who is interested, looks like you get ‘invited’ to apply:

Students that have been accepted to NC State and meet the following academic criteria
a. 1300 SAT score Critical Reading and Math only and
b. 4.5 weighted/or 3.75 unweighted GPA

Students that have been admitted to NC State and fall short of the criteria can self-invite. To request an invitation a prospective student should call the UHP office at 919.513.4078 and request an invitation.

Invitations to apply to the UHP correspond with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions notification dates. The UHP generally sends out invitations about 1 week after a notification date.

The UHP application process is electronic. Admitted students are notified through their WolfPAW account and an email alert that they have been granted access to the application. Students are issued a deadline to complete their application.

Posting on behalf of my son, who was accepted tonight.

Accepted College of Engineering
Major: chemical engineering intent
ACT: 34
SAT IIs: Biology-M 770 (not required but submitted anyway)
GPA:4.78 (weighted)
Rank:1/147
In-state or Out-of-state: In-state
Other stats:Athletics, Community Service, Music

Subjective:
Essays: Did them all even though some were optional. He worked hard on them.
Teacher Recs: Not required, but submitted one for Park Scholarship and one from the community (not a teacher).
Counselor Rec: I’m not sure, but I think the counselor submitted a school profile not a recommendation.
Hook (if any): Not related to alum, but coming from a small rural North Carolina high school at the western edge of the state probably worked in his favor.

Location/Person:
State or Country:North Carolina
School Type: small rural
Ethnicity:white
Gender:male

Other Factors:
General Comments: Has visited campus several times. Blown away by the new engineering library on centennial campus. Congrats to everyone accepted.

Have you visited the campus?: No, but I have visited the state. I plan to do an online tour at the least.

Major: Applied Mathematics

Applying to the Honors College?: Don’t know what that is! I’ll have to say no! Hahaha

Career goal(s): Doctor (Either Orthopedist or Kinesiologist) or sports statistician.

Any else you’d like to mention: Make sure you have good stats. I don’t know much about this school’s admissions process to be honest, so I don’t want to misguide someone. My strengths, in context, were probably:
Leadership (Drum Major, Honor Society President, Section Leader)
Quirkiness (I play bagpipes)
Awards (2x nat’l champion drum major)
GPA (4.2 W, 3.9 UW)
Rigor, I took almost all academic courses my school offered in AP
SAT: I think 1960 is a good score for here, but I don’t know about out of staters.

My tips to everyone in the future classes would be the usual. Don’t spread yourself too thin, make sure your application has depth, be decently good with academics, SHOW THAT YOU’RE DIFFERENT!!!, be a leader.
That sounds like a lot, but don’t stress about being perfect. You’re not. Nobody who applied is. You will do what you were meant to do in life no matter your admissions decision.

Posting for my Daughter – She is awaiting her ED decision from Cornell on Monday, so it’s nice to have her safety school in place. She is also waiting on status of Park Scholarship which should come out Wednesday.

ACT / SAT: 30 (did not report SAT); 4.8 weighted

Have you visited the campus?: Yes, it is fine

Major: Bio

Applying to the Honors College?: No; I am accepted at another choice so likely won’t go to NC State. So won’t bother with honors college app unless my parents make me!

Career goal(s): Physician

Any else you’d like to mention: This was one of my safety schools. I am grateful to have it in place and like the vibe here better than Chapel Hill…but looking to go to a liberal arts school or somewhere smaller than NC State. I have heard the advising here is not too good for premed (but Engineering is suppose to be fantastic)
