NC State vs. UF for Computer Science

Any Florida residents with knowledge of NC State's computer program? My son was set to go to UF, since he has Bright Futures money and they have the best technical programs in the state. However, he just received an incredible aid package from NC State that makes OOS fees almost non-existent and puts the cost within a few thousand dollars of in-state. With the legislature set to raise FL tuition and limit Bright Futures to under $3k a year, dad and I think NC State would be a better bet for future career, internships, etc... and a much better city to live in. We have limited knowledge of the area or program, though, and he hates the idea of dorm life and not knowing anyone there. The official rankings don't indicate much difference between the two schools, both good schools in the top 50, but nowhere near top 10. Any words of wisdom will help as he has less than two weeks to decide. Would love to hear from other Florida kids who are taking the leap of faith to attend NC State.

I’m in Computer Science at NCSU and here’s my basic Gist:

Pro - Raleigh is an amazing area to learn Comp Sci because you have TONS of software and technical companies to work/intern with very close to you in RTP

Con - NCSU computer science is pretty weak. There is a lot of money for research, but often that research takes away from strong teachers. However, the best computer science students often can learn much of it on their own, expect large lecture hall classrooms with very little individual attention if you do attend.

Does anyone else feel this way about the CS department at NC State? Thx
