I guess I will be at State next year cause I got waitlisted at Carolina...

PrideSurfer, I know you are feeling letdown over getting waitlisted. I'm sorry for that but believe me you'll get past it quickly. Throw yourself into loving/supporting the school that DOES want you rather than the one who did not. If Carolina doesn't need you, then you certainly don't need them! You have a lot going for you so make the most of it at NC State. Start making plans for State (dorm, roommate, meal plan, checking orientation schedule, etc.). My S has had so much fun at State. When he visits friends at Carolina, he always says he can't wait to get back to Raleigh and is so glad he chose State. Not to mention NC State dairy made ice cream at every meal...ummmm.
You will be in that same boat soon. Good Luck PrideSurfer and Go Wolfpack!

thanx PackMom ;) any suggestions on dorm (if not the honors village)??? I am going full out NC State now... my blood runs red instead of Carolina blue but thats okay

One question though, is there a lot of weekend activities and social events at State like there is at UNC?

Thank you soo much for your encouragement (especially right when I need it)

I am going back up there this weekend.

GO Wolfpack!

Pride_Surfer, I was in Raleigh yesterday helping daughter and niece pick out an apartment. My d. will be starting a second degree program there in fall and niece will be a junior. My niece was rejected from UNC two years ago and ended up at State and has loved it. She was telling me yesterday how much there was to do there and how much fun she has had. I don't know what you are interested in but she has done intramural sports, some tutoring for younger kids, volunteers at a hospital. Plus she has enjoyed the club scene--said there are several set up for under 21 admittance, sushi bars, dance clubs, etc. She has been very glad she ended up in Raleigh.

Pride_Surfer, I think there is plenty to do depending on what your interests are. I know there are all kinds of intramural sports and if you are into weight lifting and working out, Carmichal gym is expanding to provide more space. S works out there all the time. Go to State's website and click on "for students" in the left corner. Then check out the stuff under the Campus Life section. Of course there's always football and basketball games to attend.

As for dorms, S says he wouldn't advise Sullivan honors. He had one word for it BORING. S is a good student but loves to be in the middle of the action. He lived on Central campus as a freshman (Owen Hall). He felt it was the best location for convenience to everything. Owen and Tucker are the only all freshman dorms. They are hall style rather than the suite style of most other dorms. The website says they are the dorms for the First Year College participants but you don't have to do FYC to live there. S didn't. He had friends in Tucker and also in the Tri-Towers on Central Campus. He really liked Owen (Tucker is exactly the same) and wished he could have stayed there another year. You can read up on the dorms by looking under the same Campus Life section and looking under University Housing. Also, the housing form will tell you to choose one dorm in each section of campus. S only wanted Central so he just put 3 Central campus dorms on the form. He did the paper version because the internet form would let him do it that way. That was 2 years ago. Things may have changed. You should send in the housing stuff quickly once you receive it in order to get one of your top choices.

Now you just have to learn the State fight song....
